Guys,

I have just uploaded some photos I took today of a kite that I picked up on my last visit to Maui.

Looks similar to a few others that are being talked about.

Haven't flown it on the water as I was waiting for the new improved bridle that helps with relaunch.

Check the photos

Had a fly of this one in Perth today.

Amazing power for its size (around 8m2). when this relatively flat kite starts flying through the power zone it delivers the power of a 12 or more (roughly speaking).

I couldn't hold the power - several of us got dragged down wind hard - and it was only around 12knots in the gusts ! Very spikey power - in fact incredible power spikes from nothing to insane and back again as it reaches the other side of the window.

Very interesting kite - its pretty cool to be flying this thing right here in WA !

Hey Boys, It looks like an old DaVinci to me!

Am I right?

Hey 'Slave, I think the wrinkles are there to slow it down so you can keep up with it with your naked eye, otherwise it would make everything else you've ever flown obsolete and be the only kite worth buying.

Good winds to all

I'm calling bullsh1t on your post Mattress.
Yesterday was fat arse kite 15m weather man.
This looks to me like a lame attempt at oneupmanship from Airborne.

Maybe you flew that 8m orange wrinkle on the beach, but I bet you didn't actually kitesurf.
You know, ride the board.

This reminds me of that famous Kitepower session with the Hellfish in 3knots. Things are getting weird!

Waveslave, Matt's post does not state that he is flying on the water and as I say in my original post we have not used it on the water.

We took it out on land yesterday for a bit of fun and as Matt said we were surprised by the power,

Certainly it is not our intention to create a "lame attempt at oneupmanship from Airborne" rather trying to create an interesting thread with a twist.

Mattressbuster........you're busted!

I too can heel-drag down the beach..... even with one of those kiddy trainer kites that some instructors foolishly use to teach 'kitesurfing' with.
So what?

When you get on the board and edge against the chop and fight the fricton of the water, come back and tell us all about it.

Ian, your 'interesting thread' has a wrinkle, not a twist.

Thats sick when can i get one??
its not a new kite tho is it. i have seen a kite that looks just like that one but it was about 6 years on a beach in the UK and it flew like it was made of stone. it also had heaps of unpradictable power. we figured with the flat wing the angle of attack was just too hard to get right so we gave up.
i think john at SOS in freo has one too or it might have been bined by now.
if it is a new designe it will be interesting to see what is different.

waveslave quit h8ing everyone. why is it foolish to teach people how to fly a kite with a stunt kite? if you think you know more about teaching people how to kite safely than the IKO and all of the NGBs around the world (who recomend to use a stunt kite) then it would be great if you could step forward with some more of your highly informative and and interesting statments so we can all be enlightend.

That does it. Me and me old mate SIU now officially retire from being the grumpy old prick on these forums. Wave slapped bich (PETE) you had an easterly blowing all day down there in Mandurah and all you can do is sit at home behind your nerd machine and whinge, argue and complain about everything you read on these forums.
Mate, i've got nothing on you when it comes to being a cynical old prick so I hand the reigns over to you and you go for your life mate.
You know who I am and I know who you are so why dont you just pull your head in, take a pill and just mellow out dude.

Long before you ever picked up a kite control bar, lots of people were having fun, getting their adrenalin rush, sharing time with a friend enjoying the wind, teaching their kids and friends to have fun together with nothing but the power of the wind some line and cloth and maybe spars.
There were no deaths (most of which have since happened to very experienced kitersurfers), or the thousands of maiming injuries incurred by tough, know all, DYSM (Did You See Me) guys "self learning".

Would you really stand in front of this man and tell him he plays with dumb kiddy toys?

Ian and Mattressbuster only posted about an old kite design, they never said anything misleading, why get so upset about nothing and drag another thread into the abyss of pointless angst?

Hey Steve,
Don't get your kite strings in a knot mate.
I'm not slamming kiddy kites per se. I know you love em.
They're OK I guess if you like that kind of stuff.

What I was hinting to in an earlier post is the folly of teaching kitesurfing on the beach with kiddy trainer kites.
If this method is used, you're not teaching kitesurfing.
You are teaching the flying of kiddy trainer kites on the beach.
Which leads to the possibility of giving the student a false sense of security.

These so-called trainer kites do not demonstrate to the student the power that is required to actually kitesurf.
Only a kitesurfing kite will do that.
These trainer kites will not demand of the student the huge RESPECT that is required of real kites.

And yes Steve, I have instructed some folks (my wife being one) to kitesurf.
Those lessons were conducted in knee-deep water, side-shore wind and 100m off the beach, never at any stage flying the kite on the beach.

And regarding Ian and Mattress, they're big boys, their skin is pretty thick, they don't need you to defend them.
They know me, they know I'm full of sh1t like a lot of folks on this crazy forum.

Heck, only last week Mattress and I were sailing some nice waves together at my local winter reef-break.
I was on my 6m kite and Mattress was ripping (as usual) the waves to pieces on the polesurfer.

There're no hard feelings, it's only a game show mate!

I'm definately not a knotter mate!

There are kiddy kites, and there are big kiddy kites (and I include kitesurfing kites in that category!), trying to lump them all together in order to judge them as worthless or useless, is pointless, it will not stop people having fun on them and actually learning to fly a kite will it?

What I was hinting to in an earlier post is the folly of teaching kitesurfing on the beach with kiddy trainer kites.

You cannot learn to kitesurf with a trainer kite, but you can learn to fly a kite, which is stage ONE in the process of learning to kitesurf

Agree see above

You are teaching the flying of kiddy trainer kites on the beach.

Really? Not in the real world, even blind freddy could feel that there is a big difference between his 2M trainer and 12M LEI

These so-called trainer kites do not demonstrate to the student the power that is required to actually kitesurf.

True, they do give a hint of it though, especially if they take it out on a day like today in Sydney (15-40knots!!) and many will.
They do however demonstrate the skill that is required to be mastered in order to kitesurf even moderately well!

Only a kitesurfing kite will do that.
These trainer kites will not demand of the student the huge RESPECT that is required of real kites.

A 2m trainer is a real kite. If it is flown in decent winds, people get a fast strong dose of power, still not the amount needed to kitesurf, but people are smart.
There are no dead begginers, just lots of experienced kiters who did not learn to have the HUGE RESPECT!!!

And yes Steve, I have instructed some folks (my wife being one) to kitesurf.
Those lessons were conducted in knee-deep water, side-shore wind and 100m off the beach, never at any stage flying the kite on the beach.

Good for you, and you are very fortunate to have such a place to learn, but only time and experience will teach your partner, hopefully you have instilled in her a sense of caution and respect.

And regarding Ian and Mattress, they're big boys, their skin is pretty thick, they don't need you to defend them.
They know me, they know I'm full of sh1t like a lot of folks on this crazy forum.

I was not defending them, just commenting on how you were getting up them.
This forum has more than its fair share of folks who make it crazy for sure!!

There is a lot of you from WA that know each other, thats for sure.
If its a game show you mostly play at, fine.
I have no hard feelings for you or anyone provided its a level game show playing field.

Mr Leary has been asked to help out and make the forums a better place for us all to visit.

We're all here to make kiting a better experience, help solve challenges and inspire each other to get more out of kiting!
