Hey Gruezi,
I'm just trying to help, man.
For just a dumb**** kite-freak,
I have a reasonably good knowledge of the year-round weather for the West Coast.

For a contest organiser,
A wind on a saturday is better than two breezes during the week.

Nah, just saying it as it is dude. You just tell everyone what they want to hear, mister polite. I tell it as I see it, sorry about that.

Like I really care anyway.

Just because there is wind does not mean that the conditions are ideal for an pre-defined event.....it ain't call Kitejam for nudding....

Huh.
What does that quote mean ?
You might possibly get ok wind......
but that's bad ??????
Because you really want 10 knots and happy-daze so you can all go kitesmurfing.
lol.

Look if you lot think you can do better you take the time and effort to organise an event and then settle for an average day just because some sad loosers want people to watch them do some backrolls.
This event is not just about kiting its about getting together and enjoying a day at the beach with the bonus of some wind when was the last time you went to the beach when it was raining?
If I remeber correctly kitestock was **** wind but everyone is going back this year!
ps There are some tossers on this forum, have some respect for the people who have worked hard to organise this event.

With quotes of the day being topical right now here's a few I've made up that may suit here :-
"Those who know nothing should say even less"
"Those who think they know best should think again"
"Those who do know best are probably the last to be certain of the fact"

My take on the whole kitejam "thing" is that the competition part is secondary to the main theme. Kitejam is a social kiting day out for everyone - just as members told waksa they wanted. Even the competition side of it is also purely a 'fun comp' with very informal peer group voting of best overall impression - not technical, trick by trick excellence. Kitejam gives our avid free-stylers a chance to get together, strut their stuff to each other and in front of a huge crowd (and they would be the the last to disagree that showing off is a big part of their kiting )
There is no guarantee that the crowned king will be the best kiter but thats not the point - its a fun day out for ALL KITERS and their families. The "competition" is simply the Vibe.
I reckon if it had been a legitimate PKRA rules type "comp" then an indication of probable frontal gusty wind would have been enough. BUT for a fun family day out you need a fine sunny beachy type day - perhaps that had some part to play in the decision to gamble on the postponement . I wouldnt know & Im not claiming to . But I am giving credit here to those who do and really dont need to be told what they should do by those who do nothing. Sure it was a brave call to risk a pair in the hope of a royal flush - for those with the balls to make that sort of call lets hope it pays off.

Another impromptu quote - "There is more to a good feed than the quality of the steak"
Lets all hope for a full on four-course treat with all the trimmings next weekend.

ENJOY - bitching requires a frown - enjoyment gives smiles away for free.
Its better to keep smiling

if all you want to do is kite on flat water with a lot of other people then go to woodies instead and forget about everything else.

Postbond ?
lol.
Who committed the crime ?
(I think you meant postpone).
It wasn't a crime to ignore todays good wind for your event.....
just foolhardy if you are attempting to pull off an 'extreme freestyle expression session' on a given saturday.

And that's how KITEJAM describes itself on it's website....
extreme freestyle expression session.
It would be interesting to know if all the Perth gurus ignored todays wind also.
Did they forgo the newbie buck$ too because there were a few clouds in the sky ?
I don't think so.
lol.

Good luck for next saturday.
regards slave.

Apologies to critics here I was definately way too heavy handed with my earlier come-back.
So a big "Sorry" from me! I realise there was no real bitching involved - more just opinions/advice etc.
However - in saying that - there is heaps more to pulling together an event than you could imagine. A whole heap of agonising goes on before making that decision to pass or play. A big factor too is that the decision to call it has to be made so long before the day - its a really tough call everytime. If it could be done on the day (or even the night before) it would way way easier as well as far more certain.
If Kitejam is anything like the vision that created it then it will be one awesome kite event for everyone. Let all just hope that next Sat pays off. Looking good so far

Was out at Safety Bay yesterday, maxed on my 10 for most of the day, correct call if you ask me. Also about 20 gypsy poleboarders where course racing there being agressive nobs so there would have been some serious smack down had kjam actiteually had been on.

A back-up day might seem like a smart idea but it can be a two-edged sword.
(KITEJAM secured sat 1st and sat 8th for holding the event).
One day down, one to go. Now if only one day was dedicated to holding the event.....
you just go with the flow, fingers crossed.

If there's good karma, the windgods will be generous.
If you have bad luck with the weather, you have the picnic anyway and just party-on.

If the organisers have the luxury of a back-up day (one week later),
sometimes tough decisions need to be made just prior to the approach of the first option date.
It must be frustrating.
Having a second option date could be a lifesaver, or at other times it could backfire badly.

If the organisers are hoping for a typical, WA summery, seabreeze day.....
that could also mean 30 knots of nukin breeze.
Nature-sport events are a tough gig.
Good luck.

Hi all,

It was a tough call to make, believe me the organising team did not want to call it off either...

There were a number of factors that go into making the decision, I hope you can all understand there's more to putting on a kiteboarding event- than just having wind.

It would have been a shame to host the event on a weekend with one of the few summer fronts, cold and unpleasant, and possibly squally and unsafe.

The other thing is that we have to make the decision a few days before the actual day, to notify all the various infrastructure people and suppliers.

Sorry for any inconvenience, lets hope the seabreeze turns it on for a great weekend!

see ya all there
