We visited Namotu at the beginning of this month and scored 4 windy days out of 7. The people are friendly, the water's warm and clear and it's not that expensive for what's included. Unlimited boat trips to the local surf breaks, boat support when your kiting offshore conditions, meals, transfers, and a whole bunch more. If you surf and kitesurf, then this place should be on your list of must places to go.

nice. What kite sizes did you use most and what is the most common wind angle this time of year.

This is my first crack at making a video. I deleted the above video and uploaded this one. It's the same vid but the resolution is better on this one and dosn't have Youtube's auto editing feature.

The wind for the first three days was SW which is the general direction of the swell, and is the best for riding Namotu Lefts, Swimming Pools, Wilkes, Cloudbreak. The fourth day it swung NE which made wave riding pretty tuff, but very glassy between the sets. There's lots of semi flat water options in a NE, so it was worth taking a twin tip. A few of the guys kited Cloudbreak and said it was great, but they had to move through the many surfers.

I was on my 11m edge for the 4 days and could have easily been powered on my 9m edge for the other two. Only rode my 9m once.

That's your first attempt at editing a video?

Well, IMO that's an excellent job, keep it up!

Great choice of song, I've often thought it would be great to see some kiting matched to 'Alive'. Your use of the stills mixed with video works well too, it highlights the characters and will be a great reminder of your holiday in years to come. Good to see the Edge in action too.

Only one problem though - jealous!

Thanks for posting.

I hear there's an angry gnome that lives there and won't land your kite unless
you give him money

Hey Hambuglar,

Sorry I don't share your assessment of Namotu. At all.

A bit of prep work, like say a phone call and asking if it's ok will go a long way. We did this when staying at near by Islands and never had a problem. We also carried a couple of notes ($$$) in our boardies and had beers at the end of session at the famous Wanqa bar.

Given that we were not staying on the island and gave the guests privacy, staff could not of been more helpful.

Hey Spookyluke, nice clip.

Been to Fiji 5 times but never to kite....and now it's all I can think about. I spent a month on Tavarua for free because I saved a dude who drowned and nearly died on a 15 to 20 foot cloudbreak day. The owners were so stoked that someone took charge and knew cpr and pulled the guy through (who has since become a very good friend) they gave my wife and I a free ride. It was epic. I wished I kited then, could have made more of it! I have surfed all those waves, included ones on the Coral coast and outer reefs in Suva. The Fijians are some of the warmest people on the planet. I can't say enough about how good they make you feel when you are there. If you haven't been, it is well worth it. I can't wait to go again only this time armed with a bagful of kites and boards!
Thanks for the video, gave me a good stoke in our current doldrums.

Great vid. We did a week in Malolo island resort in April and I got out twice on the big kite and TT, but I did a boat trip out to the refers for reconnaissance and would go back in a heartbeat. Anyone living on the East Coast should definitely check it out.

This video actually doesn't do namotu justice

If you surf and kite it's paradise.

I did the Ben Wilson trip last year and booked this year straight away

Surfing Cloudy from sun up in the morning

Then kite Namuto lefts till dark

Repeat for 6 days
