I just picked one up, my first race board, I then did my research. I notice its 8.1kg vs many that are 5~kgs. Does the weight matter much? Board has some rave reviews... I want to cruise up wind, maybe try hydrofoiling.. Im guessing fins are on an angle for that physically be possible..just guessing.

I had one and thought it was a lot easier to ride than a few other boards I tried..
It is heavy but it's also solid as and basically impossible to put your harness through.. Which is good when learning as you will fall a lot onto the frothy of the board..
The stock fins don't point that high or really foil that much. They are fine to learn on but you'll want better fins at some point..
I now have a 5.5kg board and it's alott faster.. And worth the money it cost but the naish was great to learn on
Good first board , ( Have one ) good to get the feel of a raceboard but you will be looking for something lighter and faster before too long.
Despite the weight they are not bullet proof trust me on this ,they are more fragile than a full carbon board, they are heavy because there is bugger all carbon in them , mostly fiberglass.
Weight makes a huge differance , noticed with my new board ,the weight and decent fins makes it heaps easier to ride and much faster.
I got duped into buying one and you'd be better of with nearly any other board
Very heavy and the fins don't suit it. It's ok too get going in light winds but hard work
and you wouldn't be able to be competitive if you want too try racing..
Being a development class you'll need a lot of cash too get into racing.

However, its awesome you got a race board and you can start practising, learn tacks and gybes on it and if you get hooked look into a proper one.
You can pick up a 2013 race board for around 1000$ atm which is fully competitive with the right fins for the4 specific board.

But like most sailing sports with a formula or box rule. You will never get the gear that
the dealers have new, they will sell you the old stuff that's not competitive
against the stuff they have their riders using. We have to fund their riders some how cause they can't... So once again dealers ruin another sport cause that's their job n
It's how food is put on the table for them.
Brisbud i don't think dealers are ruining the sport, a lot of them are trying to support racing. However, the problem is that they have not much knowledge of racing, the equipment and how it all works and therefore their advice is poor.
Best to get advice from somebody that actually races or is involved with formula racing in some way.
With most 2012 or better 2013, kites, fins you can be competitive. Important is that the gear is the right stuff suited to you. Especially fins/board set up is crucial or the board just won't work properly.
Naish just wanted to jump on the racing bandwagon, build a board without any research or testing and flogged it out to their loyal customers. A lot of people wasted their time and money thinking it would be good gear.
Same with their Draft kite that claims to be a race kite but isn't even registered for racing and performs poor for racing.
Did rista have any input to the design of the board and fin?I have a 2013 70 cms venturi but have not used it much yet but i only bought it for light winds.
no why would Rista have input on it? He got no affiliation with Naish. Pretty sure he was riding Ozone when he was still racing.
Rista stopped making kite race fins as well

Agree ,I read somewhere he had input into the 2011 ,the 2011 has his sig on it ,and 2012 is the same board as in this vid (looks like a proto though) ,the factory naish fins that come with them are also rista fins painted up as naish fins. ( detuned and not sharp , not full racing fins ).
And I believe the kite he is using is a naish charger.(proto)?
