Dear Mullaloo Kiters
This Tuesday 14th September 2010 the City of Joondalup council will be conducting a ‘briefing session’ to discuss the Draft Beach Management Plan. With respect to kite surfing, the Council has three options to consider:
Option: 1 Status Quo – exclusion zones and designated areas apply in the manner as they are currently stated within the Draft Beach Management Plan.
Option: 2 Only exclusion zones are established which apply over the entire length of Mullaloo and North Mullaloo Beaches and Sorrento Beach from the Marina wall to the Plaza.
Option: 3 Exclusion zones and designated areas are established in the locations as currently stated within the Beach Management Plan, however, the designated area at North Mullaloo is extended south by 255m.
There is a recommendation before the Council to accept Option 2 – an exclusion zone would run the entire length of Mullaloo beach.
The council will be conducting a ‘briefing session’ this Tuesday night 14th September commencing at 6.30pm, in Conference Room 1 Joondalup Civic Centre Boas Avenue Joondalup. This briefing session is the last opportunity to deliver a message to the Council before a decision is made at the Council meeting on 21st September.
WE NEED TO SHOW THE COUNCIL THAT KITERS DO NOT SUPPORT ‘OPTION 2’ BEING ACCEPTED. WE NEED A LARGE PRESENCE ON TUESDAY NIGHT AND WE URGE YOUR ATTENDANCE.
Any member of the public who wants to speak at the Briefing Session will need to contact the City of Joondalup by 4pm on Monday 13th September 2010.
Members of the public may make a deputation to a Briefing Session by making a written request to the Mayor by 4pm on the working day immediately prior to the scheduled Briefing Session - yes, that means today, MONDAY, folks. The mayor can be emailed via troy.pickard@joondalup.wa.gov.au
WAKSA will be making a deputation to the Council and Dave Arkless, convenor of the Mullaloo User Group will also be attending.
We all know that the anti-kiting brigade is well organised and have a significant number of locals pushing their agenda. This meeting and the following Tuesday at the full Council meeting will determine the fate of Mullaloo...please make every effort to attend.
We hope to see you there,
the WAKSA Crew.
Concerned kiters of the world, well at least Mullaloo/Joondalup…
Everyone is passionate about this sport (and rightly so!!). We are all trying to keep Mullaloo beach open and many of the comments on this site have indicated various responses to the Council’s recommendation(s). WAKSA will obviously not be supporting ‘Option 2’ – complete bans @ Mullaloo.
For those of you planning to attend the briefing session tomorrow night and are planning to speak as a ‘deputation’ - we need to be singing the same song so that the Council hears a consistent message.
I would encourage those of you who are being deputized to speak at the Briefing Session to email me directly so I can bring you up to speed with the case WAKSA is going to put to the council and the reasons behind it. Email me directly @ president@waksa.org.au and I will do reply (in bulk) to everyone.
Regards
Justin O’Malley
