it may not be nice, but it was the truth. i would prefer to be honest than to pander to someone's wishes that i heap praise upon mediocrity.
the best thing that can come from this is that those girls practice heaps and bust some awesome moves in the next nats to prove me wrong.
Those girls may not be world title chasers yet but I reckon they are doing more moves than most of us out there... good on em I say and it will be videos like this that help get more women into it. My wife is body dragging at the moment and raring to get on the board. Showing her this has motivated her further.
They look great! As as lady novice 'shred betty' (using my boyfriends logon id oops!) its great to see women pulling some tricks. I can barely manage to leave the water at the moment - at least not intentionally!
And I have learnt in the easiest place ever, in a nice estuary.
So good luck to them, I'll be joining the pro tour any day now.....![]()
I watched this video, and yes the girls in it are not at the level the men are. I think they are doing pretty well though, and it is encouraging I think for other women getting into the sport - I liked to see women doing 'achievable' tricks when I was learning.
However, in saying that, this video is not a fair representation of the level of women's kiting in Australia. I'm a woman and even I've been known to chuck a backloop kiteloop or two (hooked in for ladies-style). It's not that hard, and I am mostly hair. There are many girls in Oz with more skills than me.
I was at Dolls point in Sydney the other day and saw Marine (last name??) do a railey handle pass to blind - impressed me no end. Theresa in WA does amazing things and Ange up on the Gold Coast can do things unhooked that are illegal in some states of America. I think what we can best deduce from this video is that women need to be sponsored to attend national events!
If anyone is interested, I would like to be sponsored by Cheezels.
Good to see kitesurfers slagging other kitesurfers. Boys V's Girls. Next kitesurfers will be slagging off windsurfers.
To be fair, I didn't get the women's final on tape. So, what you're seeing there is a mix of the early and mid heats. To be even fairer, I was extremely happy to see the girls out there giving it a go. It's a national event. It takes plenty of confidence to enter yourself in something like that.
So give them a break. They're out there giving it a go and that's what counts, no matter what sex you are.
Yep Im serious about those girls doing more than the majority of kitesurfers out there. 10% of the people where I kite rip and the other 90% cruise around and can do the odd jump and ride down the line in waves - these girls are unhooking, front rolls, handle passes etc - I cant do half of what they are doing so bloody good on them!
Love the waves but my flat water skills suck at times... learning front rolls now...
