I've recently learnt how to boost after watching Beginners Progression dvd 1. I'm having really sore ankles at the end of the sesh - is there any correlation between my developing arthritis and altitude sickness/nosebleeds I've been experiencing?

Where have you been boosting? Be sure to check that air space is clear before releasing off the rail.
As for your ankles... Wear an ankle brace. No doubt you will have one or two of those lying around after your netball career.

Johnny, Ive checked with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority based on some of the heights I have been reaching lately. It is not controlled airspace where you are boosting so you dont need any permits. If you take an aviation radio and just advise air traffic before your launch - ie blue 2012 cab sb currently boosting randomly in the vicinity of seaworld airspace up to 400ft agl. One thing that I have found helps a lot with the altitude sickness is oxygen tanks. Havent figured out the ankles thing yet as I am only landing 50 percent of my biiiiiig boooosts. If you bail the board before landing in the deeper water there is no effect on ankles but you get a bit of a balls slap.

Always wear a leg rope as well it helps recovering the board if you decide to bail and save your ankles some hurt

Purpleninja, I watched a doco the other night about underwater nuclear bomb testing. The explosion in the water looked vaguely similar to your "landings".
Maybe a little less freefalling and a little more kite control. It creates too much wake in your surrounding area. Be more considerate of others.
JM, be sure to wear some full length compression socks along with that oxygen tank. Helps prevent DVT.

Is it the sore ankles that forced you into doing repeat down-winders the other day? Too much pain while edging?

Purpleninja is always looking for the next big thing.
He considers wakestyle to be somewhat of a redundant form of kitesurfing.

I don't think you need to be certified when you're part of the astronaut program.

Boots plus a decent amount of rocker makes landings super nice. The only problem is rocker sucks power so you need a way bigger kite.

Thanks Wishy. I have a newbie board with very little rocker (134) what do you guys think on upgrading to a 141 tronic for the ocean. I am 90kg and have a 11m switchy?

Yes that dose suck. Are you trying front side or backside 3s? The last bad heal edge I caught, dislocated my shoulder. I haven't caught a bad edge since

Kozzie, we have been monitoring your paragliding activities since your facebook account has ceased. We are well aware of your breach of aviation regulations and, being a regulatory body, we have an obligation to ensure the safety and welfare of commuters within airspace is not compromised by reckless 'cowboys' such as yourself.

While we are it, Kemp, this is a boosting thread and not a wakestyle conversation.

As always, Fly Safely!

This thread is dumb. And why are people against boosting with boots. I had so many injuries from feet half coming out with foot pads. And looping with boots feel way better on the landings.
I remember having a full day of loops, then having to come because my feet were a little sore. Took my feet out on my boots then fell over in pain. Boots just keep everything much tight and secure.

Bring on the red thumbs!!

Looping sessions... I always wished I was in boots, ya right above I reckon even with all the stupid red thumbs. More connection to the board, can hold lots of power and load the lines better! Can pull earlier, get yanked more knowing that if you come in hot, the speed and power is going to be absorbed better.

But then I couldn't do board offs in the same session so pads and straps it is...

depends on what you are doing I think.

Flyingcab - wiffy banter? are you a closet windsurfer? The CASA post was classic, maybe you should start a classic seabrease quotes post or hop back on the windsurfing forum and kemp90 and his crew can start a wakestyle forum

JohnnyMack little bit of rocker in the board and land facing down wind with bent knees and you should be able to boost as high as you want tronic, monk, x ride dont go a wakestyle board unless you want to buy a 17m kite to have enough power to ride it upwind or want to hop on the wakestyle scene

I cant say I love twin tips but I reckon im impressed when someone cracks out the boots. It shows they don't intend to come to the beach often and are there for business.

frontside, the amount of black squares flying around is increaseing as is theyre size. im down to 1 session every 3 days now due to muscle pain next day and thats with heaps of stretching etc just gotto start landing them more consistantly and ill be allright tho. need to get off the xcal and back on the custom i think

I actually can't do front side 3 on the flats(only tried them once tho), can off a kicker. Which is strange cause I can land back mobes haha. Try them off a wave, so easy, just go downwind heaps just befor you hit the ramp.

Kozzie the day you were trying them, it was gusty.
I was well lit on the 9 so that's saying something.

Probably a little too much power to be catching edge learning.

Tomorrow take a big kite out to HV on outgoing tide. You will start landing them then.

Your unhooked railey to double kite loops are down pat!

theyd ****n want to be been doing them for 2 years now :,( add a huge learning curve where pulling the trigger on a chaos (dead on 12) to a c4 (11 or 1) and a few ****ty seasons abroad grrrrr

so hard to progress when your body only allows for 2 hours a week on the water and you gotto share your time with numerous other sports.

ill get theyre. looks like tomorrow duty pilot at cartys so another week no kiteing >_<

so ninja if your flying around pt cartwright and feel like a game of chicken with a jellyfish let me know
