Point Plomer Camping Ground
11th -13th December 2009 (Friday & Saturday night)
All who kite on the Mid North Coast NSW are welcome
we are a friendly bunch if you haven't met us already.
Friday night kicks off with a welcome BBQ (post-kiting for those who can scam half a day off work to get there earlier)
Saturday arvo weather permitting we’ll do a downwinder starting the next headland along from Plomer back to the camping grounds. Perhaps one of the non-kiting partners/friends will have caught some fish for our dinner that night. Otherwise… more BBQ and beer action.
Sunday, for the stayers, will see the inaugural Great Downwinder set off as soon as the wind blows, heading from Point Plomer to Town Beach, Port Macquarie. We’ll try to organize a 4WD to follow along the length of the beaches to rescue downed kiters if necessary.
NON-KITING partners, there’s heaps of other stuff to do there too. It's a wicked spot. Think swimming, surfing, fishing, Frisbee, drinking beer.
Or you could always have a go on the trainer kite.
IT’S FIRST IN BEST DRESSED FOR CAMPING SPACES. THEY DON’T ACCEPT BOOKINGS. Sean & Erin will try to arrive as early as possible on Friday and nab a good spot for us all. National Parks charges $10 per night per person plus daily vehicle entry $7 per car.
BYO food, alcohol, drinking water (pfft) & shelter. Drop us a line if you need any more info... ![]()
I haven't been to plumber in years.. whats the road from cresso like nowadays.. have they sealed it yet ?
Milko ,the road from crescent to plommer is still unsealed but is still accessible by 2wd vehicles(unless you are driving a ferrari with a body kit) ,a little part near race course to delicate nobby is sealed but the rest is corrigated dirt road with the odd pothole thrown in for good measure . This is still the easiest way there via the the turnoff from the highway at South Kempsey.
The alternate route is across the settlement point ferry from Port Macquarie and up the beach (only at low tide) or along the plommer road back track both of which really require a 4wd unless you want to relive the golden days of the "redex reliability trials"( ala Gelignite Jack Murray )and it promises to be even more fun after the recent rain!!! Ferry is $3.00 and operates 24/7 ....(we kinda hope they don't seal it all the way)
cheers
We've got quite a crew coming together for the weekend which is great! Amongst which i've noticed quite a few people who are thinking of buying new kites & other gear...
Does anyone from a kite shop want to come and kindly let us demo some gear for the weekend? ![]()

hey Lotofwind,
That isn't actually the camping ground, sorry!
www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/
It's in the Limeburner's Creek Nature Reserve so no dogs allowed :( it's has the best facilities and is right next to two surf breaks so is the best spot I reckon.
Looks like da bitch will have to stay @ home :(

I've just created a link to the event on Facebook
i have no idea why it's so crazy long
EDITED to fix link. I think you have to have a FB page and be signed in to see it.
bahahahaha ![]()
i've got two mutts too that i'd love to take but the ranger dude lives next door and i'm sure would love to give me a fine. ![]()
That camp is by far the best spot to camp though, with the surf spot next door. Plus that bay is super easy to get out on at both ends for less experienced wave riders like moi! The waves at the southern end are big rolling fun ones.![]()
Here's a pic of the bay from the camp site:http://stayspotz.com/prod/_design/stayspotz/_show/spot/Point%20Plomer%20-%20Limeburners%20Creek%20Nature%20Reserve#
would it be quicker for me to come through port macquarie and cross at the ferry and head up the back road or to go through to cresso and come back along point plomer rd.. I would be coming from port Stephens and i do have a 4wd.. thanks![]()
Probably just as quick if you're already on the highway to continue along to Kempsey, take the turn for Crescent Head & back track a bit to Plomer. It'd be 50kms longer though.
Far more scenic and shorter km-wise (but slower) would be to come into Port along Hastings River Drive (second entrance to Port Mac if you're coming from the south), and follow it all the way into town until you come to a roundabout with a left turn onto Park St. Park St turns into Settlement Point Road, and at the end of this road is the ferry. Across the ferry turn right, follow to end of road and turn left onto Plomer Rd. The track is about 10kms long. If it's low tide & you're experienced at beach driving you can often run up the beach in about 10 minutes. The 4wd track is ok too. 2wd vehicles are not recommended but i've seen it done (the track that is, not the beach!). Once you get to the end of the track/beach head to the northern side which is where the camp site is. ![]()
So it's all systems go for the weekend after next! We thought it'd be fun to have some t-shirts made so they are to look like this:
There'll be a few sizes, about 15 in total, first in 'best dressed'! $15 each.
Could we get an idea of final numbers so we know how many sites to reserve... cheers![]()
Ezza will be up on Sat morning Happy to buy a tee shirt XL.Hopfully will get some places to put the tent.
