Hi all,
Judging by seabreeze for Saturday we are looking to get NW winds up to 25 knots.
Would this be worth heading down to Melville/Applecross based off these conditions?
Cheers :-)
Is that your way of saying it's too gusty to go out period? ![]()
Melville is always tempting for me as I'm a stones throw away. But I reckon head to the coast, wind should be much cleaner and if A squal come through you will have a bit more room If things get pear shaped!

It's his way of saying. Don't become a statistic.
if you want the river then head to point walter or the dog beach further east from pt walter . Melville is not worth it on a NW unless you know what you are doing and have someone there to launch you .
Like Dusta says ^^^
Its still gusty winter wind conditions that can roll your kite out of the sky and then go full power again, that means 'over the road' and not good for your health ha ha at Melville
If the ocean swell is small enough for your experience level - then the cleaner air and lots of space in case of Glasstraxxs Pear shaped... is ideal ![]()
Ps also check the ocean for big areas of Pooh brown weed - and avoid it !!!! It likes to drag Everything under... ![]()
Sweet, thanks for all the feedback. I haven't had the pleasure of hitting the river yet and sounds to me it's a bit early to get our there before the smoother winds kick in..May just keep the gear in the boot and scope it all out over the weekend anyway..Can't wait to kite out near the sandbar or Pelican Point..Does anyone have a good link to ideal wind conditions around Perth for each kiteboarding location? Cheers guys! ![]()
I'm only a beginner too and I found this really helpful

Anyone know any other sites?
On a northwesterly the wind will come straight over Mosman park to pt walter ,attadale with some serious turbulence and kite stalling wind shadows. If you can get up north get the early bird sea breezes up in Exmouth!.There blowing in next week!
Thinking of heading down to leighton on saturday with the 7m, been itching for a kite. Hopefully not overly gusty!
Just be carful kiting at Point Walter or Melville Beach if its onshore.
I reckon best way is to check out both spots . .. it only 5mins drive between to 2. Work out which has the best side shore wind. Generally they are both a bit gusty but best to chose the spot that has best wind direction ...
Gusty wind is most dangerous if its onshore..

Sorry Monkers, but I'm going to have to pull you up on this one....it's not a case of "checking out Melville Beach if it's onshore"
RULE #1: if it's dead on-shore @ Melville, DON'T KITE THERE.....
Just trying to reinforce your message - it's been a relatively windless winter, and like one or two crew, everyone's frothing for some action this weekend....first bit of wind, I'd hate to see anyone get hurt given the forecast is showing a mix of green & brown arrows.

Juddy , I thought that is what I was saying ? but I get your point .. I didn't mean "ok to kite there but be careful" .. to clarify .. check out both spots and kite at the spot that is side shore ..don't kite if its onshore .
Well we're both singing from the same song sheet then mate & we're one big happy STAY THE FK AWAY FROM ONSHORE MELVILLE family ![]()
