Just because brand B is being made in the same factory as brand A doesn't mean they are the same standard.
They still use different materials, processes, different standards etc etc

No idea, Its not a word in our vocabulary.

Why is this kite brand cheaper than the others? Well they dont bring a ''updated version" out every year. They dont pay alot of money for marketing or teamriders. You can buy the kites allmost directly of the factory so no middleman. Is it poor quality? No, its cheaper for the reasons i just told you. Its abit like Switch who sell their kites online.
But heey, keep on paying for you 'new models' every year. Someone has to keep up the economy

Any time I say they aren't all-conqueringly the best, as Terry and his other green-thumbing log-ins seem to think they are, along comes Lofty to make comments.

This thread; QED.

Hi all, let me tell you what i know....

Today there is approx 48 kites brands on the market globally. There are 8 kite factories globally.

These manufacturing facilities are owned by manufacturing companies (not kite companies), and contract their production services to the pool of 47 customers. The big brands, with bigger orders, tend to get priority, but no single factory is able to produce all the kites for a season for single brand on time and on schedule, risk free. Hence, particularly the bigger brands, they must spread their production scheduling risk across a number of factories. One production blockage at factory A could be disastrous for the reputation of dominant brand A if there is a quality failure, or the brand scheduled immediately before has used excess material such as stitching thread or some other generic material that the factory uses (yes they do), or there is some unforeseen delay which cannot be allowed to affect the 100% of stock/production for season 201X for that brand. It is not as sinister and ruthless as the forums imply, it is simply standard commercial practices and manufacturing norms. We tend to think that our kites are far more important than is the case - the decades of global manufacturing refinement from bikes to ovens to umbrellas to wetsuits to motorbikes means that production methods and logic in those intertwined industries is far far ahead of what we, general public, conceive as being good, better or best practice.

There is only one known factory to be operating that is owned, dedicated, and exclusive to a single brand, this is Velumtec making Zian - opened Dec 2014. This means zero subcontracting of processes (and loss of fine control). It is the only factory where you, the customer, can visit the factory and meet the people who are making kites on the factory floor. See the quoted invitation from the factory:

******************
ABOUT THE FACTORY:
Zian kiteboarding with its holding company Velumtec proudly inaugurated its own production facility in Sri Lanka at December 1st 2014. Zian Kites are produced on a 1000 sqm surface by 55 workers under European leadership. Only first class materials are used to create a new Zian kite. Our kites are constructed to last even in the toughest conditions.
ABOUT OUR NEW WAY OF TRANSPARENCY:
Zian kiteboarding is the first brand which enable's customers to visit the production facility. Contact us to get a tour in our factory in Negombo/Sri Lanka and see with your own eye's how a kite gets produced.
******************

And that is my piece... thank you for listening... please troll and flame away if that makes you feel good or gives you a rush...
..or if you prefer pm me and il give you a go on one. Or visit (site sponsor) KSS in Scarborough in a few weeks when the new stock lands on their shelf for a chat and demo, Bonny is a champ and will help you out.

Chill vibes and warm winds be with you.
