Going there next May and was wondering if I take my kite gear. Looks like a sandy beach with winds onshore but like most of Fiji it will have a lot of coral. Would be good to know if you can kite from the beach at high tide which is around the middle of the day for my stay.
Has anyone been there or kited and can give a heads up.
Thanks Alex
I kited there about 10 years ago. Bit of a distant memory but you can definitely get out from the beach in mid-high tide (probably a 3 hour window). Was pretty good fun - there are lots of little reefs that you can cruise around (once you get past the island reef). Launch was pretty easy and not hard getting past the reef (which was probably around 1 foot deep). We were there in June and wind was up and down, we stayed for 1 week and only 1 day had good enough wind.
I spent 4 days on matamanoa island for my honeymoon. I wouldn't exactly recon this place would be a good kiting destination. Not that one couldn't kite from this island, but this island is more of a small romantic couples kind of place. Small beach and I'm not sure of the amount of wind they'd get there? And then there's the direction of wind, being a small island you'd need a boat ready for rescue if things went wrong or just hope to hit another island and not slide though the gaps into wide blue yonder?
But if its cocktails and relaxing by the pool your after, this place nails it.
