Surfed there last year. I took a 7 and 9m kite and kited three days out of 10. Good kiting, but the lineup was a bit crowded for tearing through on a kite. The winds tended to be pretty fickle, but it was good fun being able to suplement some greate paddle surfing with a bit of kiting.

Hi Jamie-Lee,

The Maledives have wind at certain times of the year (this depends on the location too). The wind is not steady and it is mostly during the monsoon season (lot's of rain).
I've been there many times and I can highly recommend it for a nice and relaxed diving holiday. But kiteboarding- No. At that time there was only windsurfing (no kiteboarding in the late eighties/early nineties).
You need a big wallet- that's for sure. In the mid nineties the price for a can of beer was US$6.00 on most of the islands.

Have fun!
