Was busy trying the Mako King with different fin set ups today.

Had foot straps in mutant style first with 3 fins at back and surf fin at front. At Tambo Bay on Lake King, Gippsland Lakes. Did not enjoy the ride very much in these lake conditions, seemed hard work all the time beating up against wind and the choppy waves.

Changed straps to twin tip, and instantly converted to a very smooth and dry ride. Very enjoyable effortless cruising, carves like they all said it would, and loads with a definite carve upwind very easily. But, .... there is no easy way with 3 fins at rear to switch to toeside, this animal is magnetically bolted to the carpet. So I removed the two rear smaller fins. Still fairly well locked in but much better to switch. So, ..... I tried without any fins, geeezzuusss, what a skaty ride that was, .... felt so weird I could not resist half a dozen runs, feeling all the variations. Memories of being on a See-Saw as a kid, you could still get along quite well despite the board yawing perhaps 30 degrees either way from the lubber line, (the way I wuz pointed generally), LOL. Transitions were great fun, thought it would get bit hairy if the wind came up but.

OK last option was 2 smaller fins front and back, and I loved it. They are the H1 56mm ones.

Next trip I will try smaller again, probably bout 40-45mm fins. Love the carving on the Mako, but searching for middle ground of being able to switch without drama.

The Mako is great. I have the king . I have also tried all the set up. The surf set up up didn't like. The twin tip set up is perfect . Smooth on the chop and easy turning. The upwind is great . Love the board. Sometimes when is low tide at Rosebud or Altona I removed all the fins and can ride on flat water. Yes is will slide if you push to hard. I let the board find the sweet spot then lock the foot position.
