Okay, I'm cured from any esthetic dilemmas after a year with the NKB Whip Tomo-clone(attempt).
It's been a real problem solver at my nearest spots where chop and weak winds dominate.
I think the Tomo-shape is a functional success in terms of upwind ability and controllable bigger turns, so I'm really curious about what the Vader can do in the department of tighter turns, down the line.

Didn't find a plethora of Vader reviews, but saw excitement in every post I came across.
If I choose Vader for the good days, and the dedicated trips - is there any trade-off? Will I loose any function, or some satisfaction, even the smallest kind, by trading in a classic fish-shape surfboard?

Please bear with me as I try to explain my little upgrade puzzle:

Level is almost(?) intermediate. I don't mind spending some, and have several boards. Directionals are fun, kind of important to me. (I mean really important, not just the shoes and purses important, riding part of the human race)
Of course a huge bunch of boards isn't airline friendly, hence the thinking.

Just sold my Whip, getting a Vanguard as a replacement. As I wanted one size smaller anyway, this was a no-brainer. Such a board has a place in my life, for lesser days and going out through the archipelago.
At the same time I just got a NKB Kontact big-wave board, for traveling to bigger surf, and those days with strong wind and chop. That board obviously defines the other end of my range.

I also have a NKB Wam, their allround kitesurfboard (2013, before the outline got longer). Of course, it definitely turns tighter than the Whip. I was looking for some replacement for this board anyway, as it was a bit small unless strong wind, and I never really liked the original front pads for strapless use. A continuation with brand and shape would be the NKB Pro Surf.

Hope anyone with Vader vs classic experience can comment on this :)
I have also almost decided on a Vader - you think I later will look back to Wam or other classic boards?
Or is there room for an entire category between Vader and big-wave boards?

Even small pieces will help. Thanks guys.

I love my Vader and I use it in pretty much all conditions, on big waves I'm always scared I'll nose dive it but I haven't really done that yet. I bought mine off the rack without ever trying a board like it and I am very happy with how it turns and performs.

Thanks Brohan,
Your experience with the Vader in big waves was particularly interesting - sets the frame.

Just heard that my Vader has arrived at the shop, really looking forward to this.
Still interested in hearing more thoughts, particularly if someone have been using Vader and a conventionally shaped down-the-line board in quite similar conditions.

I demoed the vanguard and vader over the weekend on flat water, such sweet boards...
You should ask Felix Pivec directly either on the kite forum or shoot him an email, he'll respond to any queries

Hi Olav,

I;ve been kiting 12 years and 8 of it on waves. Check a thread Tomo Vader on here - its relatively new where I give a review on the board for thruster or quad setup.
