As part of building the KBV’s presence in regional centres KBV is undertaking a photo shoot of kiters at key points centred on Lorne.
In conjunction with a number of photographers a group is heading to Lorne on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November [sorry for late notice] to take shots of kiters at locations in the region. Shots are intended to be used in the revamped KBV website Photo Gallery and to promote kiting more generally.
If you are a local kiter please contact us via the KBV website so we can provide details as to where we will be as the exact locations will be dependant on weather conditions.
Going by the seabreeze forecast, it aint looking good for Lorne next weekend. Saturday with the westerly will suit Pt henry & 13th beach, Sunday if it goes around as predicted late in the arvo to sw/s then Torquay area, Anglesea or maybe Urqharts. Im tipping you would need an almost due east or nth east for Lorne because of the hills surrounding it. Good luck
Dear kbv,
I like the idea of getting kite photos for a web site...that's great.
However, are you sure you want "to promote kiting more generally."
As a passionate kite boarder, who pays dues to my local state organization, I would never want one cent of my funds going to the promotion of the sport!
Sincerely yours,
Nick
I note the reference was to "Lorne Region" which could be anyway from Torquay to Apollo Bay.
Now that would be right up Surfer62's alley. a downwinder from Apollo bay to Torquay.
I for one will be setting my sights on 13th beach on Saturday.
a little downwinder 13th beach to 13th beach.
Ral, thats your old parasailing route isnt it ? Watch out for those updrafts and tall timbers.
Whilst I have done the Anglesea - Torquay downwinder, that was enough to burn my thighs and deter me from such nonsense. Even I'm not a good enough bullshirtter to claim Apollo Bay to Torquay ![]()
Why not 13th to Pt Lonsdale on sat ? Scary huh ! ![]()
hey all we will be staying at lorne but will be kiting where ever the wind is blowing this trip is to get some shots and to hook up with local guy's who kite in the area so this could be anywhere from lorne to point henry but will keep you posted on whats going on
P.s this trip is more to get to know the local crew not promote kiting in bad spots just so happends we have a place to stay at lorne
Maybe the details should have been more precise but Hookworm's outline has provided some insight.
The accommodation we have arranged is in Lorne but the kiting is proposed at locations as determined by the prevailing weather conditions.
The plan is to seek scenic [and safe] locations from Torquay to Warrnambool as per the "region" comment. Lorne is certainly not a kiting Mecca. As for promoting kiting – it’s a bit hard to hide it under a rock. What KBV are keen to do is for the good of all kiters and is to promote safe kiting and to maximise beach access. So far by KBV working with Parks Victoria who manage the foreshore waterways, Marine Safety Victoria and local Councils we have manage to keep all beaches open. One of the reason we are seeking regional shots is that generally local authorities are keen to have these type of shots included in their “lifestyle” brochures for their region but we have little stock of these.
Also it is a chance for KBV to be less Port Phillip Bay centric as we have Members all around the coast. Our 2008/09 Events Program includes proposed activities at Torquay and Inverloch so watch that space.
just thought I'd say the weekend trip was awesome some of the boy's had a session on friday at point henry which was howling when we got there and then settled down a bit and was great. saturday was one of the best day's i've had in ages plenty of wind great flat water. the accomadation was outstanding and the host george was one of the best cooks i've ever tasted!!! he he what i mean is that dude can cook think everyone will agree that seafood paolli is the best food ever. thanks again george and to all who went cant wait till the next one.
What a great weekend - Kiting at Pt Henry and 13th Beach - pity about Sunday with no wind. Kite Safari leader George, from Kite Mag, got some great footage and was the extreme host.
For locals along the Torquay to Warnambool region - we look froward to a re-run maybe later in the season.
Please contact KBV to indicate your support.
