Managed to get a few sessions in at the bombie over the weekend. The first day it was clean, 4-6ft and was by myself for half the day; even better than Namotu. I took out the camera yesterday and shot a few clips before the swell had dropped out. The Reo continues to prove how much fun it is! Yewwww.

looks like very light winds, no white caps, perfect if you can get going in those conditions

Sorry I know it's the go-pro perspective but where were the waves?

nup, would've been close to 20 knots out there...
there is a 2m high shelf that keep the waves glassy.

Love it, and the music.

Technical question: unhooking on a wave. I'm strapless, but have never non-kite surfed. and keep getting pulled off waves. When, where and why unhook?

Unhook to free up the hips and shoulders.
You want cross shore wind, but cross on works ok if wave angle is good.

Trim your kite so you don't get pulled off the waves. There is a good bws vid on YouTube outlining the basics of unhooking.

Agree with Matt, unhooking does all of the above..

Ironic that Matt rides with "kitepower" and most peeps use BWS as a reference source.. Hmm funny.

BTW when you get really into it, the kite you buy is a result of what style of wave you ride..

Well spoted...
As I said in the description, the previous day was 4-6ft, this day was 3ft.
Fun regardless of size.

When and where you want to test yourself and put your kite positioning and board riding skills to the ultimate test . Oh and if you actually want to feel like you're surfing on your backhand.

Ian Alldredge never unhooks, so if he's the best, why?

It is a JAY XX ABS harness (from the guys who make Dynabars). I love it, but I'll throw a review up in the next week.

Contact your local Jaystore distributor, Kitepower for me.
Here is the product page from the Jaystore website:

G'day SB. That spot you put the pro did nothing for me. I borrowed a go pro and used it at different points on my gear and they all sucked dogs balls. Thankfully I borrowed one rather than buying one as it turned me right off them.
Not taking anything away from your skills ( I have seen some of your other stuff )but when Kitepower push this vid on FB as a fantastic vid I think they well overrated it.

Is it just me ...

or do others find go-pro pov vids of surf-related stuff stupidly boring ?

I want to see the ride across the whole waterscape.

I like to see the other riders too.

I don't want to see 10 minutes of the same stuff, with no breaks, no edits.

I know, it's all too hard cause you need someone on the shore willing to film you.

Sigh.

I certainly don't disagree with you both...

No good angle for the gopro; that's why it was short. I always have mates that are keen to be camera man, kiting always seems to be drop of the hat for good conditions, ie. this was a Monday lunchtime.

I had fun out there, hope the video didn't wreck your day. Haha.

Yep I watched Matt pull some sick vertical backside surfing on the bombie as the swell dropped on the Monday. Nice wave which rears up as it bowls onto the reef. He was getting really critical and setting the kite in front so as not to get pulled off the wave. He's pretty generous taking pics at our last Nsw comp. Good kiter, friendly guy
Cheers

This is a snappy one done with a mouth mount. (dummy mount)

I reckon its a pretty good angle. Obviously it was a flat crappy day though.

Could be good for chasing someone around with. Keen to give it a try in some better conditions.

Before the flames begin - Im not saying its a good video or anything - just that its a decent angle from a go pro.
