Got myself a new 10m havoc 2009 in October last year and already the depower strap rope is starting to fray badly about 1-2 inches from the end that is permanetly fixed to the chicken loop

i would expect this to happen at the other end of the strap/rope as when i use the depower it uses a cleat mechanism to hold the rope in

has anyone else had problems with the depower strap/rope fraying and then eventually breaking and what have you done to prevent it and or prolong the life of it?

Are you washing your bar every weekend? We have had riders who doesnt wash them at all and they fall apart after 3 months. Other riders who had the kites from same time, wash them after each weekend, cleat n rope is still good as.

When washing, pull rope off cleat, open up safety so to make sure no salt is built up inside. I have a big bucket of water at back, after each weekend, dip vest, harness in to wash, then bar in to soak over night.

Is the wear where you hook your safety onto?

These ropes are strong as, but if not taking care of it, like most things, it will break. Was speaking to Moti about this issue last year and he said the amount of ropes from other brands that breaks is unreal. LF has one of the best ones in the market.

Take it back to your dealer to have a look and see if it can be replaced under warranty. Else replacement ropes are widely available and only takes a minute to change.

maybe i should clean my bar and lines in fresh water after use instead of just rinsing them in salt water

my 10m has been getting a fair bit of use the last few weeks

either way a new rope is on its way from LF

great service from the guys at LF

Its probably because the hole in the bar has started to form an sharp edge that is cutting the line. My Naish was doing the same.

Just man up and don't depower!

I hardly ever rinse my 12m HiFi bar in fresh water and its still going strong after almost a year!

Anymore hints or tips on this???

Is waxing the rope going to help lenghen the life?? or just attract more sand and speeding the decay?

cheers

BTW, im pretty impressed with the havoc

From what I saw of other's depower ropes, I don't think the waxing helps much. I think its just a fact that you have to accept replacing the ropes on kites like the havoc, rev etc.

mine frayed and broke at the base of the CL aswell, on my new one i just waxed it up with surf wax and it helped a fair bit, new bar didnt fray at all. just wax it up.

i also waxed up the ropes which seemed to help but you need to remember to reapply every few months

i also used surf wax but now that i think about it surf wax is used to create grip so maybe candle wax would be more appropriate

Same here. The plastic lip on the hole keeps chipping off, so I use a bit of Araldite to fix it. Put it on, let it level out and it will set hard and smooth. Don't touch it before it cures!

Candle wax melted into the rope definitely seems to help as well. I'm going to get some of that Ronstan lube stuff to spray on too.

yeah but the surf wax is malleable and just coats the line, after a few sessions it loses its grip just like wax on a board does.
