Rottnest to Leighton - Bring it on!!!

Awesome work getting this one off the ground guys, if the Doctor co-operates this should be a hoot......I hope the swell is up.

As a former Rottnest (Wadjemup) resident I like many others have wanted to do this run for years.

Thanks Red Bull & WAKSA

So what’s the criteria to be one of the 50 competitors?

Apart from being a WAKSA or AKSA member the email says “have a stated 100hrs of kitesurfing experience”. I’ve been kiting for nearly 10 years but I don’t have any paper work to prove I have a 100 hours experience.

Will be putting my name down for sure

I would think there will have to be some sort of draw for places as there will be a heap of people wanting to do it unless the entry fee is high like the Rotto swim.

Rotto Run! Cool, it would be best to start from somewhere towards the western end... That way you can get in some waves on the way through!

This will be awesome.

WAKSA, let us know if you need some helping hands. This will be a huge event for the image of kiting in Perth.

so...does this mean that those who are expressing interest from abroad will have to register as waksa members if they are to kite from rotto to leighton??

Does a 100 hours kiteboarding-stacking experience get me in?

Perhaps entry should go by age....oldest first, what do you reckon Slack?, I'm sure even Youngy would agree

That's a much better idea than a lottery but who will bring back the 50 walking frames?

Priority should go to WAKSA members who have had the longest memberships and to the guys and gals who lined up for the last Rotto race only to have it cancelled due to lack of wind.

Yo Phil thanks for that - Hamish and I were wondering as the event itself is not clear but I'd imagine that the international kids still wont register yet will still get to compete - which of course sucks - because I believe that anyone who has kited along our coast, ie woodies - pinaroo or anywhere has always wanted to kite from rotto to perth etc....Phil you organising the support crew or are you on the commitee? I'd like to help out if you need some ideas/support

I agree with Lou , those who have been paying their WAKSA membership the longest should get first option .
That way you will have a fairly good chance that those people will have the 100 required hours .
100 hours ? Thats only like 3 summer months worth of kiting . Maybe minimum requirement should be 3 years as a member of WAKSA or other kiting org.

Great work to get it up and going again WAKSA .

Will be very keen for a spot .

I agree too. Years of service count. I nominate myself for a spot. I was one of the lucky ones who spent all day waiting last time.

Mr ok - put your flame suit on!! Please let WAKSA determine what can and cant be done, they are to be commened and taken in high regard for their efforts. What an amazing event finally off the ground!! Props to waksa and everyone involved - i can only hope that i get in the running for a spot.

I suggest that if you stand over 6ft -3 tall, or you have broken more than 1 arm or leg for the love of the our great sport - you get an immediate spot in race -

I'm warming up already with AndreC 's Ultimate Kitesurf Warm up video - great stuff dude. My vote this lady does warm up on big day before race.

You have to make sure no one gets on the run that wont make it,
Last Kite Stock down winder was 2o + Ks we picked up 6 guys that clearly shouldn't have been on that run, they were all confident even though they got enough warning before hand. Sea rescue was pissed off a bit,
You don't want liabilities in the open ocean.
