Now that I have your attention, my brand new pump has some sort of lubrication in it, I am determined to keep my kite pump in top condition this year.
What sort of lubrication is used for these kite pumps.

From my experience, when you start looking for lube for your pump - it's time to buy a new pump.
I've tried everything & it's just a downhill spiral.
Oh, yours is New - enjoy

G'day touch, yup silicon spray on or wd40 both work as long as you clean out the original gunk and sand before you spray it in I've had the same pump for two seasons now and can really feel the difference between how many pomps it takes to inflate my 12 before and after a two min wipe and spray, btw: I started servicing my pump after pulling/breaking the shaft off the plunger bit and missing a session after a two hour drive to get to the spot so It's not just a good idea for longevity.

No
WD 40 is possibly the worst thing you could spray on rubber seals
It actually breaks rubber down
Also corrodes plastics especially when uv makes contact
Silicone spray works and inox
Sand ingress is what damages the seals
Still got my ozone pump which came with my instinct sport
Once a season it gets a dismantle wash n wipe
Quick blurt with wurth silicone spray
Still as good as new

... from what I found, watch out for silicone lube.

North came out with a little white tube of the stuff, apparently silicon lube, that's what I was told it was and it came with the new pumps of the day, so surely its gunna work. Nope. Found out it was complete rubbish. Made things worse. Dumb arze here thought of being pro-active and give the pump a once over before the pump showed signs of wear and tear and f me the pump bound up and jammed 5 minutes later. W T F!! Bloody useless. Did they even test it???

I tried a bunch of stuff to fix it and the only stuff that finally worked was silicon grease. Same stuff you can use on camera housing seals. I gave the internals a good clean wiping all the other crap off then applied it to everything. Instantly worked well but I figured the true test will be the test of time. Worked great there too,,,,, up until some azzhole stole it so I'd probably still have it.

WD40, Inox or any of those oil lube type of stuff lasts for one kites worth maybe then seems to attack the seals and makes things greasy black and messy and then failed anyway. Tried graphite powder too,,,,, geezus that was a stupid idea!

Anyway, in my opinion the silicon grease works great.

cheers,

Robbie :)

ps living in hot humid tropics with big kites so I do a lot of pumping and I found don't pump up too fast, slow down. Heating the shaft buggers the seals quick smart.

Bought a can of Helmar H4000 Silicone Spray many years ago and it's still probably half full. When the pump feels a fraction rough I wipe the shaft with a rag and spray a small amount of this stuff. Probably every 3rd or 4th go I also wipe and spray inside the cylinder. Never had a pump fail or seen any deterioration of seals with this stuff.

I'm also careful to not let sand get into my pump or on the shaft. Dudes who leave their pump sitting on their kitebag on the beach during their session are asking for trouble.

Big voids in silicone spray quality Robbie
Hence the wurth brand
Saying that a tin is possibly close to a new pump
Anything static or greasy here doesn't work due to fine sand
North kite pumps suck

Yes avoid the ''normal'' WD40, but the Silicon version works great on pumps

I've also been using petroleum jelly which works great as recommended by Steve (TerryMcTool) in a previous thread about pumps . You Just need to re-apply every few weeks, works like new!

Petroleum Jelly? Maybe if its with some bloke you just met on grinder.

I just spit on it and pump away. Just like down the local knock shop.

... The old North pumps suck for sure but so did they all back then,,,,,, these new ones are great!

Silicon grease I use is 'Rocol' brand which is apparently a good quality, same same quality as Wurth I'm lead to believe. You can get it from Blackwoods.

Anyway, for old pumps, what I found is the grease 'fills gaps' so if you have a top seal ie the seal in the lid, that is well worn and leaks air,,,,, the grease fills the gaps in the seal and the pump works like brand new with its original delivered volume. Silicon spray or silicon lube didn't fix this for me.

The grease doesn't make that much difference in the new pumps with exponentially better seals so I only use a little bit,,,, old pumps heaps.

I'm the opposite with lube, the new ones with good tight seals need lots of lube, where the old ones with bigger gaps, it's not so important...

... me too when using the thinner liquidy lube stuff on new pumps but the thick greasey silicon stuff was the only stuff that helped my old sh!tty pumps.

I can't believe you are using a three year old pump, that is so dangerous. You should cut it up and make sure you get down to your local shop and purchase a 2017 $afePump. If you don't, as some point you will die.

Molycoat is the stuff that is used for all pumps. Not cheap but you dont need lots. You can find it at your local roller bearing shop.

Yep, you can get them at BigW and Kmart as well for sometimes even cheaper than that...But they have a plastic shaft instead of Aluminum hence the lower cost. They are fragile with a very cheap tube that breaks and punctures easily. They "do the job'' for the kiter going out 20 times per season, however, I used those before and they lasted me about 2-3 months tops.

The newer styles of pumps which came out last year are made by a company called GRI, which almost every major kite manufacturer now sells with their own logo on it. Yes, they are slightly overpriced but takes almost half the time and half the effort to pump a kite, hence it will last longer. The inflation tube is practically unbreakable. With re-lubing, those pumps work like new and so far I've had it for over a year and pumped a few hundred kites with it, still works like new.

Clean the sand off the rubber seal and clean the bore. Coat the seals with some petroleum jelly.
