While kiting the surf break at Cottesloe (6pm) today I saw a large fin about 50m out from the jetty. It broke the surface a traveled about 30m before submerging again, it did not reappear.
It was grey, triangular & approx 2 x the size of a dolphin fin.
Make your own conclusions.

Holy crap! A giant mutant dolphin!

The question is; was there the tip of a tail sticking out of the water behind it? That's when you know it's not a dolphin.

Note: where there's one fin there's always another close behind, just how close is the differance between tears and smiles.

I also spotted a fin at the same spot! No worries. fjordfiend, I was riding a Red/cream SB3 and NAISH strapped surfboard, I think we shared the same break for a while.

Yep - there is a large local predator there.

I undertsand that it generally leaves local poleys and kiters alone (at least the ones wearing the Cottesloe Council required regulation WAKSA membership tags) - but loves to have a chew on the Euro's and blow-ins....

Seen the occassional head popping up on long down winders from swanny dunes but yet to get my water proof sniper rifle in the mail.
