this hasnt been promoted too well as a wave comp. I bumped into a few crew down the beach today that were thinking it was just a racing event. hence why i thought id start a post highlighting the wave event that is inc this year. if we get decent numbers like we do for the wedge comp it may be a yearly event with prize money for the kiting events for future classics too.
WAVE COMP FRIDAY 10th JAN
The Lancelin Ocean Classic will host Kitesurfing events this year with a Waves Comp, Freestyle and the famous Ledge to Lancelin downwinder. To register or for more details go to www.lancelinoceanclassic.com.au/ See you there !!!
prize money and you can register on the day if you havent already.
forecast looks good for fridays wave comp- 2m swell and good wind all arvo! and then freestyle on sat and kite racing on weekend also.
Definitely - agree with Ry. This looks like it will be a great comp for those who can make it
I am onboard to sort out the comp format and judging - it will be the similar as other WAKSA wave comps
There isn't many competitors registered, 5+ hours of contestable wind and waves makes for a really good competition format. Hopefully full double elimination (you have to lose twice to be eliminated), 2 to 3 man heats, 20 heats across the afternoon with a final about 5.30. there is only an open division, and first second and third overall. But there will be a prize for the best woman, junior, master, legend based on progress through the rounds and wave score. there will also be a prize for the best air and best fail.
Three important things
You can register on the beach from 11 - I have made room in the draw
Briefing is at 12 - you need to hear this to know the area and how heats will flow
Comp starts at 12.30 - first heat will commence at 12.30 sharp to make the most of the conditions
Its a great addition to the event. I was planning to go up to watch my bro compete. But putting it on Friday sucks.
Ok I'm in, held off for a while because of busy schedule over the next few days but I have a brand new 7mtr that hasn't been taken out of the bag yet, sounds like a great way to christen it.
