I hope they release that proposed course today, possibly not what people are expecting compared to the poley's race.

Would be interesting to see if there are any upwind tacks thrown in to mix it up abit

That would be interesting but I wouldn't hold my breath, if there is going to be less marks than the windsurfers have I can see it being pretty much straight downwind.

We know the shortest route between two points is a straight line.....but is it the quickest?

The start may be interesting as well, the windsurfers usually start on the beach I believe, so if our start is the same there could be 60 kites trying to take off at the same time....fun and games ......and maybe a bit of carnage .

Lucky forecast is for southerly winds on Friday, though it will still be very interesting, makes race much shorter probably only 17-18km, as by the course, I am not sure if I can go that far down wind on one leg, why not move first mark more downwind as well?

Yep I would have liked to have seen a course more like the windsurfers one as well, the more turns the better as far as I was concerned, I guess it all takes time and money to get boats set up etc.

However I reckon we should just be happy to have the event, we all have to do the same course and there is still some room for tactics to come into play, so lets just pray for some wind and enjoy!!!

Besides the poley's wouldn't want us posting faster times for the same course.

Maybe this will be where drifty wave kites might have an advantage or just multiple loops the whole leg? Going to be interesting.

I wanted the same course too but for the opposite reason
but you can't make a whole bunch of pro fish boats take the whole day off
I'd have loved to see the times as in open water it could be real similar. The guys who practiced reckon 40mins would be fast and that is about what the WS'ers do

Ha ha I knew you would be the first to bite Mark.

The races were always going to be on a different day and in different conditions anyway but it would have been good to compare.

I actually don't think there is going to be much of a time advantage in the KSers shorter course.

I understand it came down to resources and cray boats available. Once they knew what they had available it they then had to factor in risk management and all that stuff. To get enough cray boats on board takes time, all the fishos knew 12 months ago they would be asked for the poleys race, the kite race popped up with little warning. Hopefully more boats will be on board next year and more legs/turn markers can be included back in. For the boats/markers that are available it makes sense to put them on existing GPS points to minimise the chance of a stuff up.

Hopefully once the race establishes itself the courses will be the same and bragging rights will be up for grabs I for one am disappointed I can't watch or race. On now seeing the course 60 odd kites looping madly down the coast will be awesome.

So is the wave comp definately Thursday and the downwinder Friday?

Any spots left for either?

I think there is still spots for the kite race on Friday though.

I would have thought the least amount of resources would be required if they had them both race the same course at the same time.
Or at worst start the kiters at a time when the first windsurfers would be finishing which would mean all the support craft are in place anyway.

Is this not logistically possible?
Or is it just to keep the windsurfers happy?
Or is there a sh!t load of windsurfers racing so would be to many on the water at the one time?
Is there usually a lot of rescues required taking windsurfers back to the beach with boats?

^^^ you can't run both on the same day one after the other
Often the seabreeze is not in until 3, and you need a few hrs after the race for sweeping. If somebody was really missing properly, it would not be long before dark. It is already the case that they won't start a race after 3 - 3:30 or something for those reasons.

And yes they pick a lot of windsurfers out of the water or retire to the beach as it is a very hard race.

as to going together, you can't run a up to 200 windsurfers and even a handful kiters on that course the start line is like 100m wide and the start alone (with 60 kiters) will be very very difficult on Fri.

Have to agree with mark_australia as good as a combined race sounds it would'nt be pretty. Just been out at Dutchies with poleys & we sail differently throw that into a race scenario and it would get ugly.

Latest 4cast is good for the kite DW not so flash for the wind surfing marathon but that could change. Hope TC Narelle doesn't cause us too much grief.

Of course you can run one race after the other, that would be the best option.

I just suspect we will be the test dummys this year and the organisers should consult with local racing crew
