I went into a shop today to have a look at demo kite, and I saw a new look Response bar. Was then informed that there was a recall notice due to a safety issue - and LF are replacing the chicken loops for free. I had no idea, and after searching seabreeze, couldnt find any previous threads on the topic (sorry if I missed it). It was issued 31 March 2015... Saw it only got put up on US and Canadian consumer protection sites 4 days ago.
Here is the advice from their site:

They recommend you go and see your local distributer for a replacement as soon as possible and not use the "old" chicken loop until then.

How often have you pulled your chicken loop saftey?

I had problem with BEST chicken loop back in the day, the sewing broke and the loop pulled tight onto hook, with no chance of release.. (photos somewhere)

Back then lots of brands had bad chicken loop designs and under load were almost impossible to pull..

Even harder to reset if you did...

Im not sure what my point is, other than it doesnt matter how good your system is if you dont know how to use it and make sure it works every once and a while.

I hope knowbody got hurt due to fault.

our local LF shop sent us (customers that purchased one) a txt with the details just before Easter - part replaced ages ago.

Yeah we replaced everyone's here. If anyone needs a chicken loop whether you are our customer or not, just send me a message and I'll get one out to you.

Every time I land the kite. As soon as it's in the hands of whoever is landing me, I pull the safety.

Why?

1) Ensures that it works
2) Becomes second nature
3) If some bozo lets the kite go I don't die
4) Lets me practice putting it back together with one hand :-)

If your pulling your safety after kite landed its not under load...
It's also after you have been out kiting rather than before. Should learn to land your kite rather than relying on "bozo's".
