Pretty crazy footage from a Friend of a friend who was kiting in the Fitzgerald River National Park (half way between Albany and Esperance) last week.

The boyfriend was operating the drone and could see the action live

Pretty cool footage. Doesn't look like a huge shark, but hard to tell from above. It definitely did show a little bit of interest in her though.

I was kiting that same area two weeks ago, must say I was half expecting to see a white coming out of the clear blue depths. Have previously had a very close encounter just around the corner from where that video was taken while spearing two years ago, so there's plenty about.

All sharks are Great Whites when you don't know what it is.

I once spotted a GW straight in line with the Scarborough Amphitheatre a few hundred metres off shore . No more difficult than spotting a Grinch , J

Looks the right shape to be a GW.

Yeah a leggie aint ideal but looking at the way that fish responded to a board going past it i shudder to think of the outcome if she was body dragging instead, small as it was.

Ill take the chance of a leggie induced kitemare over being bitten in half anyday...

She's been busy with the media yes. Saw some 9 news facebook stuff as well. The usual "survived close encounter with a shark who circled the kiter" BS. I think it is great to see a shark thanks to the drone footage. And I would pee myself too when realising. But I did not see the shark circling her and I don't think she "escapted a near attack", I don't see evidence of this. If anything it reacted to her kiting by closely, that was it. Enjoy, move on, and work on your light wind technique. I am sure sharks are underneath of us every day somewhere. Some reacting by changing direction or even following us for a bit. So what.

Love you russ :-) it was v v v cool footage thats for sure but yes highly possibly a bit of an over dramacised publicity stunt

Admin..u may delete comment,,.

I've see heaps of 3m & 4m things..who hasn't by now in w a ??....chased them jumped them.had a whale breach 30m from me...........yesyesyes.kind of normal around these parts
...isa allthough actually you've been my friend on fb for five years and I think we met in queensland when I was doing croc jetski tours up estuaries....long before the 'travelling with isa' blog...if I went on the news every time I saw a 3/4m shark, a whale, humping turtles or whalesharks or scuba'd with wobbegongs hammerheads etc and or chased them around on the kite to 'check them out' I would have been on the news waaaaay over 500 times. However it was cool footage and timing

Does anyone have a drone? Willing to pay $$ to film me kiting near a tiny shark so I can get famous on the internet.

But what if you do a mick fanning and the shark gets caught in the leg rope?

You could also strap your feet in real tight, use booties... or just risk it and if it happens then send the kite from 3 to 9 oclock and get boosted away from the shark.
