The laws of averages says there will be plenty of it but sods law says otherwise. will spend most time at Bowen or Arlie beach .... where you off to ?
As for stingers .... the urunkanji or the box jelly fish will put you down if you have a close encounter. You can pick up a 'cool' (not) red and black stinger suit just about anywhere locally .... expect to pay $70 - $130 ish. If you are off the beaten track I also suggest you get a bit of brown vinegar for the kit... at the least you can save any stung german backpackers .... lol
I kited there a 6 months last summer and didnt see / hear of 1 incident but better to be safe than sorry. Pretty much all of the locals I kited with wore stinger suits or springsuits.

i think we spoke about this when I was over there. this time of year up north is usually terrible for wind, although it gets worse the further north you go so you may get lucky....i'd certainly be packing that 13!
regarding jellyfish, you won't have an issue on the outer islands, box jellies are a coastal jellyfish. I'd be more worried about the irukandjis, alot smaller and can be found on the reefs. not as nasty as a box but not far behind....wouldn't worry though how many millions of people visit the reefs off qld every year and only a handful get stung...you got more chance of being munched on by one of those big fishys off mullaloo!
you could always detour past noosa and pop in for a few sessions here with us on the way!

Vinegar is not at all effective for the pain of the box jellyfish venom. The intention is to permenantly disrupt the tertiary and quarterary protein stucture of the venom that has not yet entered the bloodstream. Studies have apparently shown that up to 75% of the venom can be rendered ineffective in this way. It won't take away the pain you experience, but it should reduce the duration as there is no new venom entering your system.
On the matter of the Irukandki Jellyfish, to say it's not as nasty is probably incorrect. Box Jellyfish have killed more people, but they have also stung a lot more people. Irukandji stings hurt a tiny amount at first, but the real symptoms may be delayed between 5 and 120 minutes. 30 minutes is the average. The symptoms include fluid in the lungs and potential for brain haemorage. There is also the pain, which apparently even under the highest possible dose of opiate painkillers possible is bad enough to make victims want to rip their own skin off. They have been found as far south as 250km north of Brisbane.
Anyway, yeah, get a stinger suit.
