Afternoon all,
I will be travelling to Vietnam for 3 weeks kiting in January. I am somewhere between beginner and intermediate but wife is definitely still a beginner. So I am looking for a nice spot for us to progress, hopefully not crazy busy and obviously flat and safe. Can go anywhere in Vietnam, just needs to have a few places to eat and drink..
If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Cheers.!
Check out Mui Ne first and if it is to busy for you (and it will be) go to Phan Rang?
If you go there with an open mind and don't expect it be the million dollar kite spot you will have a great time, I lived there for 10 years.
If you need help with taxi pick ups from the airport etc let me know I will put you in contact with a mate.
ENJOY!
PS.
Beer Hoi, sells a 1 litre of beer for less than $1 ;)
Thanks Dazed and Beersy - nice to have a couple of other options other than mui ne, which doesn't sound all that appealing now I've actually looked into it!
Mui Ne is good but not for inexpierienced kiters
there lots of kite schools and beginners but the wind is fierce and the shore break heavy.
when you do get out the back the chop can be heavy.
however, once your over this your progression is fast. all the schools have great instructors who rip.
its got a great nightlife and food is cheap and plentiful.
Accommodation is first class.
you will enjoy Mui Ne the kiting is first class, provided you have some skill.
you will kite with hundreds of other crew but there is plenty of space and lots of other places to visit.
We learnt to kite in Mui Ne at new year 2013. We had lessons at a place about 1.5k south of full moon.
Firstly it was very busy, kites everyone, learners through to experts, there are also fish traps, floats dotted around the place. The beach was only about 15 m wide where we launched so you stood in the water and your instructor stood up on the bank to launch. The beach was quite busy with tourists walking along it who didn't care about kiters. Also when we were there you had to body drag out through surf, not great for learners unless you are used to the surf.
On the good side, there is some great accommodation, varied and cheap to expensive food (we mostly ate in local cafes / restaurants) etc. It is a bit of a tourist town though if you are looking to get away.
I would agree with jonnydiesel's recommendation.
Great place for a holiday though, we "did" the south half and travelled on local buses etc. Dalat was well worth a visit just to escape the heat and humidity. We rode bicycles from Dalat to MuiNe and whilst it was a great adventure picture riding in a sauna and oven.
