Can anyone tell me the optimum season in NZ on the north island around Auckland and surrounding islands
I think this was in October
Hi Jas, Spring is usually considered the best riding season in the Auckland region - with an average of 6 days a week of decent SW wind for Sept-Oct-Nov. Dec and Jan are usually a little light on wind then Feb-April is great for E winds. The winter is a mixed bag of frontal winds from ANY direction.
Check out the wind stats here for an idea of what to expect:

Yeah - Alex was at the first Red Bull event in NZ, ten years ago this October, finished building my FIRST kiteboard the night before the event started, I'd only been riding 4 weeks or so but took the week off work to watch a learn. Rode upwind for the first time that week too. Now ten years later I make hundreds of boards a year, teach others to ride and supply all types of gear - never imagined that back then - or maybe I did...
spring for kickass wind just can't be beaten... akl is certainly not too cold even in winter... as decay sed its anything goes in akl winter... and different conditions in different parts of the city lol. up north i guess its different.. depending on beach.
akls traffic is a right biarch if you you need to drive through the city... ok for me as i kite local... furtherest spot is 20km drive through farmland... other spots 5km away lol. up north so traffic probs at all...
summer depends on where in da city you are lol... NE thermal on east... SW thermal out west... hot and calm in da middle.
the spot down the road from me kicks ass in da summer N thermal ![]()

Spring kicks ass... if there was a time to visit NZ then its spring for sure imo
a few mates have kited at Waiheke and yeah they rate it highly. i've never kited there though but from what they've been saying... i think i should lol.
i used to be in christchurch summer and blows around 15knots to 25knots but can blow up and i also lived in invacargel and that was super windy and blew 30knots easy somedays
I made a doco on the whole event but I can get the aussie kitesurf community to have a film night.
so boring over here, I also have made other kitesurfing docs but the social orgiizations here are not even interested in a having a look.
what is the way it is really boring
never boring over here
