Hi, has anyone been kiting Greek islands? I'm looking at staying in Paros June/July next year, it looks very good but if anyone has been there and could give any insight, it would be great.
Thanks
Haven't done Paros but I did Mykonos. Was there in August last year and it was windy for probably 4 out of 7 days. Wind was between 25-35knots on those days. I took a 7 and 9m with a twinny. I believe Mykonos gets the strongest wind of the islands. There is a kite club that you can pay to store your stuff and they will help launch and land for you. The area that I was kiting had a fair bit of rubbish in the water. I heard that a ship had sunk and that was the cargo but cannot confirm. Loved Mykonos as you could party at night and wake yourself up with a bit of boosting. (Most mornings anyway)
Not sure this helps you.
Thanks Noodel! Sounds good :) I could use 25/35 knots 4 days out of 7! i'm planning to stay a couple of Month so Paros would be a cheaper option, as I believe Mykonos is quite pricy. I'll be there with the girl and little one as well, so i won't be partying so much ;)
There have been a few threads on this before if you do a search:

Hi I kited Santorini this year beginning of July. Wind was great 25-35kn 6 days straight. Paros should be the same, the plus of kiting Santaorini is there was almost nobody there (only can kite monolithos beach) whereas I think Paros gets pretty packed. My one tip is hire a quad while your there (just make sure its 150cc or more so you can get up the hills) best way to get around - oh and enjoy the gyros.
i have done paros for many years, even done a few seasons teaching. Its a flat water spot, has 2 schools, you can camp illegally. cheap accom is in the main port, but also can be found in the fishing town of alyki, staying in anti paros can be nice. but main island is prob cheaper. wind starts from 10am till sunset. you can have a 2week no blow as the meltemi wind charges. you want to get yourself a moped to get around. what else would you like to know?
Thanks guys! I was planning on going quite early in the season and stay prob 4 or 6 month. I get different info as when the season starts. Could I expect any decent wind from April or May? the place does look great!
Hey Frogzie
I have kited Paros amongst others last 2 summers while sailing in Greece and Turkey. First year was early to mid may and we got maybe 2 days a week that were useful for kiting but only ever used my 12m. Nothing over 20 knots. 2nd summer (this year) was July and yeah you will get wind then! probably 5 out of 7 days on average and 20 to 30 knots. Just dpends on when the meltemi starts - sometimes its early june sometimes late.
the main set up is in the paros/ anti paros chanel and it gets very busy with 2 schools operating but theres plenty of space. Bit choppy and you do kinda need someone to keep an eye on you as a fouled kite can have you drifting off to Ios pretty quickly. the schools are pretty watchful though so all sweet.
Another spot I had to myself was in Naousa at the top of Paros when the meltemi was kranked - truely flat water and 20 plus knots though a bit gusty being behind higher land. Able to kite off the back of our boat which was sweet :-) Unlike alot of the other smaller isalnds there are quite a few other spots too if you get transport.
Agree Mykonos too exxy for a long term option. Kos is another possibility but season starts even later. Turkey just a ferry ride away too so lots of options there as well but again bit later start than Paros. so all in all your on the right track I reckon.
will be back there again myself next year once summer done downunder.
Enjoy
