First session with a new kitecam setup - Contour Roam camera in waterproof case with Kitehero linemount. The wide angle lens works well.

nice effort for trying to find a new angle, but maybe it's me, it kinda makes me seasick.
fun looking waves in the background, you should be carving those babies! Don't ever let a wave opportunity pass you by.

It was light wind - only about 18 knots for most of the session - hence the kite moving around a lot. In stronger wind with the kite locked in there would be a lot less change of camera angle.

I carved a few waves, but they look bigger than they were - they were less than 0.5m.

The jumps are interesting, you get no idea of jump height as the kite flies directly above during the boost and the camera looks straight down. The bigger & higher jumps have more air time, but you really can't see the height. Unless you do a kiteloop of course!

This setup would be great in bigger waves due to the wide angle - it would catch a lot of the action.

That was a very boring video.

Also, 18 knots is NOT light wind.

I work in Media and Video Editing...

The angle is fine, but it needs to be contrasted with something else.

Watching 5 mins of the same angle and the same back and forth is not entertaining at all.

Its a 5min video that could've gone for under a minute.

I might shoot 3 hrs of video from different angles and only end up with a 2 minute video. So try getting some other footage, different angles and ways that you can set up the cam to get some variety. Or just make it a really short video with the ABSOLUTE highlights, like if you careve a really nice wave or something.

Just my 2c.

18 knots isnt light wind either ;)

Dave.

a) I'm glad I don't have to kite in water that colour
b) I'm glad I don't have to wear a wetsuit in summer

Nice poo stance!!

You should think about rotating the video inside the frame so that you stay level and people that watch it don't vomit...

PassingWind, thanks for the tips and feedback. I will cut a shorter version. Some have expressed interest in the water starts from a learning perspective. I am also thinking of mounting the camera a bit higher up the lines.

Stronger wind will also provide a better opportunity to lock the kite in - and better waves in the Bay.

The lines twisted when the linemount slid down. I was keen to get out after a 5 week layoff (broken rib, bowled over by a dog!) so I didn't bother untwisting them. Will look closer at how to sort this out next time.

I am not sure how to secure the line mount further up the lines - I found a post where someone recommends tying rubber bands around the lines.

And I think I also need to add a leash to the camera in case the linemount comes off the lines.
