Hi guys,

So I'm teaching for KBA in HuaHin at the beginning of October, however, I'm actually travelling over to Thailand next weekend and I need a bit of advice:

1. Should I take my own kite gear?
I mean, is it hard to travel with a kite bag and gear in Thailand? I'm looking to explore a bit and don't know whether it'll be too much hassle to travel with all my gear or if I can just rent stuff whilst I'm there.

2. Has anyone kited on Phuket before? What's it like? What sort of wind should I be expecting, if any?

3. Any suggestions on where is a must kite place in Thailand?

Thanks for your help, guys.
Jess

Hi Jess
I can't tell you about the kiting or wind but travelling around should be no problem with a kite and board. There are lots of cheap options for getting around and cosidering it is a major tourist area, they are used to people travelling with luggage.
Enjoy your trip. Cheers S

Hi Jesk,

Unless you have really big kites and boards, borrow something from KBA. Winds are predominantly light and quite gutless unless you get a bit of a storm wind. Especially as you're coming from Victoria. Don't expect the same power out of your current quiver.

You'll most likely need 15-16m kites in Thailand or larger depending on your weight. A big board also helps. A 20 knot wind in Thailand is worth maybe 14 knots in Victoria.

Just call the guys from KBA, they'll give you the low down. You can go everywhere by taxi once you land in Bangkok and will be the better way to get to Hua Hin, so large loads are no problem. Say G'day to Eran for me when you get there.

Great! Thanks for the heads up DM and S!

i think I'll probably take my board, shortie, harness and 11m C4 (I can always dream), then look at either borrowing or buying a 15 or 17m once I arrive.

ill be sure to look for Eran, DM.

cheers guys
