I'm thinking about a kitesurfing holiday mid year for a couple of weeks. I'm an intermediate level rider, will be travelling with a mate and want to keep costs reasonable. I'm thinking somewhere with a bit of variety - flat water and ocean maybe with a kite school nearby to learn some new tricks. Anybody been anywhere cool lately? Im in perth so thinking maybe SE asia somewhere??
PNG! Fly from Cairns to Port Moresby on Air Niguni for like $400 return. The give a 50kg baggage allowance for kiters and surfers. I'm working on something for around the same time. Maybe june/july.
Have you thought about Vietnam - some good conditions there for both flat water and waves with a school etc. Let me know if you want more info...
i just came back from 3 weeks in boracay. Dont bother at all!
Wind right now is bad in indonesia so forget that.
My choice would be mui nae vietnam.
Jetstar flys cheap cheap.
Thats where i would go..
pay for me and I'll be your tour guide 'ho' finder.. Just remember to say 'do mae mae' to the taxi driver when u get there!
Vietnam sucks. The water is filthy. I have photos. Grey muck with dead fish snakes rates pig heads lungs millions of bottles etc and it smells funny. I'll put the photos up when I can. Didn't rate the place at all. It's not that cheap everything is in us dollars, the people hate us. Nonwonder we bombed the shiiiiiii t out of their place. And extra charge for everything. It's not easy if you bringing your gear. Mui ne is 4-7 hours by bus depending on traffic - the highway is a shhhty old road most of the way. Didn't rate it all. Oh and lots of learners and chop. If you like chop. But on the upside free wifi everywhere and fake rolex's are about 30-200 bucks ha what a rip off. Don't make a trip there just to find the water is better in aust
we operate trips to Aitutaki lagoon....help them rebuild after Cyclone Pat!
this June, July, August, September
ex Auckland at this stage as new direct fares ex Aus are not competitive witha quick jump across the ditch to join up in AKL

Me & a mate headed over to New caledonia for the PKRA in November, was awesome, had great wind for 10 out of 12 days, flat water ![]()
However it's kinda wet season at the moment.
Otherwise, i hear greece, egypt, cape town are the go
Picker,
I understand your opinion on Mui Ne,
but Vietnam has a lot more to offer than Mui Ne if your willing to explore
did you go to Phan Rang??

Vietnam has 3,444 km of coastline not including islands.
go explore, ![]()
Just back from Ko Samui (Thailand) Epic flat water spots on the SE coast behind reefs. Best wind in April but hot, hot, hot. Flick me an email if you want details.
May-Nov tradewinds blow 18-25 all day and night. Check out Land of Lahara vid. They took a charter boat out of Pt. Moresby for like 10 days. It works out to be pretty pricey (like $400/night) but there are other options too. If you are willing to put some cash toward transport (i.e. hire a boat) than you can get any type of riding you are after.
It looks sick. If there are a few guys planning on going around the same time we should try to pool resources and hire transport. I'm going to fly to Cairns form Perth on points and fly Air Niguni from there.
If anybody has any first hand info or recomendations I'd like to hear it. PM or post it as it seems appropriate.
Well, I'm sold.
Time to submit an application to the Minister of Finances and Social Planning. Do you do a non-kiting partner rate? I'm not sure if she'd want to go but I'd better have done the research anyway.
I'm thinking something around July-Sept depending on work.
I need to get a copy of Land of Lahara.

lots of diff places to think about - thanks all. Im interested in PNG boat trip sounds a bit more interesting than the usual SE asia bogans-in-bintang-singlets kind of holiday...
the PNG experiment does sound pretty good.
If you were coming from WA, would you fly straight to Port Moresby or fly through to QLD first? Just checked flights and its about $1300 return.
How long does the trip go for, dates, best time to go and prices please![]()
I'm going to book my PNG trip when I get home from Canada in about 3 weeks. Watching land of Lahara gave me a huge kite boner so I'm totally going this winter.
I would definately recommend an organised live aboard boat trip for your first visit to PNG. there are heaps of options if you are living there as you have local knowledge and your own transport, but without that you will be lost.
Add in the problem of a large LNG project happening in Port Moresby at present and you will struggle to find accomodation or transport at all let alone at a reasonable cost.
Boats give you the best options too. If there is no wind then the diving/fishing will blow you away.
