Amazing what these guys are taking on .. should be a trip to remember:
In their own words:
" On 12 July we are attempting the hardest thing we've ever done in our lives Our team are kitesurfing across the Torres Strait (from Queensland to Papua New Guinea) - a world first - to raise $100,000 for McGrath Foundation We will kitesurf all day, every day, for five days sleeping on uninhabited islands 100% of donations towards our $100k target go to the McGrath Foundation."

Yes, it is amazing. Best wishes as to a safe return.
Nope, they are not kiting to PNG.
Sabai Island is entirely in Australia, not the independent nation of Papua New Guinea. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saibai_Island
What makes Torres Strait, 'infamous'? Have taken a barge across some of it. Looks wonderful. I know a Sydney guy who has kayaked around Torres Strait for a month. Still rather chuffed about it.
"Along the way, we will run kite flying clinics with the local community."
It is my understanding, that these remote communities will not have the monies to buy such toys, nor continue with lessons. If I may say so, it is likely that were they to be gifted such, the gifts would be squandered, as so many can't be bothered with set-up and effort. They, like most Australian will want something with an engine. These concerns of poverty have been spoken of by other Australians who have already kitesurfed Torres Strait...

"Fund raising will be very well spent helping these proud & happy people at the PNG end to 'get a life' rather than suffering a demeaning squalid existence. Very disturbing to see the poverty in what, with a very little help from us wealthy westerners, could be a tropical paradise for them all. The poor majority of the native PNG people are innocent victims of circumstance. The living standards they endure are no fault of their own. They deserve a fairer share of the wealth. Im not sure just what Im going to do about it..."
About me, with respect to just doing stuff, and before the sarcasm starts;
- have cycled N-E-S points of the Australian mainland, alone and unsupported.
- have paddled a sea-kayak Tweed Heads to Townsville to get away from the Sydney Olympics. I realise some irony in that declaration.
- have paddled Bass strait thrice. First time was solo, 2nd time had an overnight leg to get to the Otways, etc etc
- I am a nurse. You PTKE guys ever volunteer in a hospital, nursing home, or respite service to ease the burden?
The selfish nature of adventurers sees others to pay for their holidays. And it is as though, by speaking out about adventurers getting monies to support their adventure, while 'raising funds for a potentially life-saving charity, I am to be shouted down for challenging where their true motivations may lie.
Yer u tellum, i cycle to the pub most arvtonoons by mi own steam and don't ask 4
dough-nations, you know wif mi cankles and my bung knee, unless it's raining
then i bum a lift, and if i win a meat tray in da free raffle i sling the dog a chop, lucky bugger! ![]()
Then i cycle home and right support posts for ungrateful hero's that could of been
Sponsored on there adventures and done some good instead of tearing others down
and making an a$$ of themselves. ![]()
Nice one face palm! ![]()
My dearest Mr 'Burglar,

You've done some amazing trips Wollemi - some great memorys for sure.
Just wondering about your comments .. the donation page states : "100% of the donations go to McGrath (we’re self-funding logistical costs) "
And so far, it appears they've raised $18,000, that is all going to charity.

Not much kiting up that way, I dont think there is much wind, but you will find surf spots, do a search for PNG surf, there is a bit of info. Most of the wind is down south of Pom and to the east, so you will be traveling for a kite.
