Morning Guys,
I'm new to the sport of kitesurfing and was planning a holiday to Tonga.
I just have two quick questions that I hope one of you out there can help me with.
1. Has anyone been kitesurfing in Tonga?
2. If so where would you recommend and what time of year?
Hey Mick78,
I went with the girlfriend at the end of October last year and the days we got out kiting where awsome. There's really only one resort that has anything about kiting on their web page (Mounu Island) it's where the last CM Island Oddessy was. You can check Mounu out on www.boarderpatrol.com.au along with a couple other places in the pacific.
They can tell you the best times of year for wind. If you go in October time you can do humpback whale watching that can get boring but there's the chance of swiming with them which is pretty cool. The diving there good, people are friendly the church choirs are awsome (even if your not into church).
The resort is on it's own Island a little off the beaten track and the daughter of the resort owners is a kiter. I'd recomend it I enjoyed it the staff are great the food was good you get your own fale with water views (there's 4 on the whole island). The whole meal deal can be a bit pricy but hey it's vacation.
i went there the main island for a surfing trip. we stayed next to that aussie owned ha'atufu or something spelt like that. the wind was blowing but not really kiteable.
surf was good though.![]()
We thought about a surf trip to the main island but chose kiting up in the Vava'u chain instead as we heard better things about the kiting than the surfing.
Mick, what kinda $ would a week in Tonga be including flights from Aus (Sydney)?
Thinking about heading up in August..
