Hi
Can the people who kite with sunnies recommend some good ones??
I've got a bit of 'pink eye' that's starting to give me a bit of grief.
Cheers
What the hell is pink eye? I had a american teacher in high school who always used to say "you have a case of pink eye you shouldnt be at school because its contagious". I myself knew they were pterygiums from surfing so I'd tell him to go jump in the creek seppo.
Whichever ones you get make sure they are not polarised. You need to see the surface of the water not the fish underneath.
Haha....

Haha....yep. Pterygium is the one.
As someone that has lost an expensive pair of sunnies at the beach recently, I can vouch for the importance of something that floats and can be easily seen from at least 10metres away. For this, I've invested in a good pair of floatable sunny straps in bright fluro yellow (from most boat & marine shops).
They can be seen from miles away!
So both sunnies and strap float together.
However, to give you 100% peace of mine, tie the lot to a durable water-proof piece of chord and tie that to your harness somehow.
All up $10!

Sorry gotta disagree, I was told by eye specialist to get polarised for maximum protection against eye damage. You can still see the water surface just fine, never seen fish though. I use Sea Specs, wash with spray and wipe after each use. I honestly don't know how anyone can kite into the late afternoon sun.
and they have a great tech feature
Is that great tech feature the knot on the side of the bikini bottoms, so you can spot your "landing" quicker? I'd be coming in hot and fast for sure, but I'm sure re-launch would be quick too.
Whats the diff between normal sunnies and sunnies for water
Good ones: hydrophobic and anti-fog lenses, they float (supposedly), lenses are interchangeable, decent retention system
Cheap ones: no difference
IMO don't rely on claims of floating unless it's big and chunky and easy to spot. Better to use a leash, around your neck...
Lost 2 pairs, + lost lens it self - just came out after not the most pleasant landing face down, more expensive glasses lasted ~ 10 sessions, cheaper ones lasted 1 session, strap just came out off the glasses. There is no much difference if it floats or not, it is almost impossible to find it. Probably the best solution is to tie them up to something wetsuit or harness or somewhere else. Personally I prefer polarised lenses.
I used to use expensive ones. But after loosing a few pairs. Smashed off crashed on being pulverized in the surf i flagged than idea. You can loose the floating ones too and even if you find them again on the beach later they are usually scratched to hell.
Now its $20 sunnies with $3 neoprene thingy to stop them falling off.
I don't care if i loose them.
PS a helmet does a good job at keeping sunnies on if they have a strap.
for teaching i have allways just gotten the cheapest pair with catogory 3 rating from big w or whatever joint for 10$ then tie dental floss from each arm to create a loop.
for kiteing i wouldnt even bother my sessions for last few years have never gone over a couple hours before elbows and shoulders start getting gassed out. and crashing every 10 minutes in some pretty powerful ways just obliterates the sunglasses or any other kooky device im wearing like hats or anything else thats not a core item stitched on. i cant even wear regular board shorts i have to have ones with the draw string embedded the whole way around the waistline to tie off.

Don't worry buddy. One day yourl get good enough where you don't crash every 10 minutes.
The biggest issue I have found with trying to get decent kite sunnies is no matter what I have tried they all fog up after a short while. That film of salt that makes it a pain in the @rse and I end up taking them off mid-session. Hydrophobic lenses is the way to go but I haven't seen a brand that can do it yet.

only way for that to happen is i start short tacking and crash every 5 minutes

this use to **** me to tears for first few weeks in construction. all you have to do is move the sunglasses further down your nose and away from your face. not much just a few centimeters. the fogging will stop happening.
its a bit like how scuba divers (when waiting geared up before a dive) should allways have there mask around there neck NOT ontop of there head (like half do) because heat from your forehead will fog it up.
Unfortunately the fogging is not fogging of the truest diving sense. It is the film of salt that forms over the lens and basically sticks on to it creating a foggy view.
These....
Cheap tinted safety specs... (non-stretchy) cord attached with rolling hitch to tighten once on...
I crash like a kook and still haven't lost them....
Edit: the loop on the cord can be clipped onto wetsuit zip puller
Use 'Rainex" on the lenses to help the water bead off
Spare a thought please for us that have to order prescription sunnies! Biggest con in the universe in terms of $$$

Yup that's my setup too......
I found $20 cheapies from the servo the best option, then adding a strechie band and string etc to keep them attached to my harness worked well. similar system to what you guys are talking about.
but for anti fog the blue and yellow rainex works wonders. get it from an auto store. wipe a decent amount of that on the glasses lens, it will then dry quickly and be hard to see through but then you just dunk it in the sea and it comes out clean and keeps clean for an hour or so. use them while doing wakestyle so they worked for me. it repels the dirt and grime somehow.
