HI There
Just wondering if anyone had any Info of Kiting in Somoa and Tonga, thinking of going over in Early septemeber 10 - 20 days in each! I head the waves in Tonga are pretty heavy with super shallow reefs? any info would be awesome. we will wing it when we get there but any suggestions on wave spots would be sick! flatwater is pretty easy to work around.
Thanks Heaps
Hey Pete,
I've been to Eueiki island for a week kitesurfing, which in is vava'u. It's a flight to Tonga, flight to vava'u, then boat out, nice and remote. I went there with only kiting in mind and got loads more out of it in checking out the amazing environment and culture.
We went in September 2008 and had wind every day but one, 15-20 knts no more. They had a boat you could hire to go places to find waves or flat water but we just rode around sussing out the islands/reefs and doing some open water stuff. There wasn't much flat water around the island itself. The islands there are enclosed in a outer reef so it's not too bad for chop and amazing gliding over the reefs and then super deep blue water.
The american guy who owns the island lease is a sailor who does the water speed record thing on a carbon multi hull - there's a spit around there where he try's to beat the record. Him and his wife live there half the year with a couple of locals to help out, pretty low key relaxed setting.
There was about 10 people all up on the island (4 of us, couple of other guests and staff). They had all mod cons using a generator and was very comfortable. We drank them out of beer the second night and they went to the markets and bought more :) - was about the same price as home though so it was worth there while!
If you want any specific info let me know, would highly recommend it.
I've been to this resort back in 1999 ...

Paul was an awesome host and looked after us with everything we needed when it came to surf, food, entertainment and local culture.
Even though it's catered for surfers due to the nice break out the front of the resort, don't let that stop you. Paul can arrange a small bus drive to a local lagoon further East that is flat water and perfect for kite surfing.
Brillant thanks for the Info! yep we are especially going for kiting aswell!
will be tops more remote the better! will get some pics and video when we are over there and let ya know what its like
Thanks again
