Well what an epic day, truly classic downwinder, meself, coil, waxhead and fatso had a great downwinder from Torquay thru the heads and landed safe and well at St Kilda today. Left Torquay in a 20-25 knt southerly, hit the heads 1 hr later and got to St Kilda in another three hours. Not sure how far but we was knackered. Thanks to the support crew in the rubber duck who supplied us with cold stubbies on the way. Next northerly we will backtrack, all welcome, byo stubbies.

What kind of boards do you guys use for these epic downwinders? Something with a bit of flex I should imagine.

I remember seeing some guys in 2000 crossing the English Channel with kites - they had mega long speed boards...almost as long as a sail board - only useful if you're just crossing a body of water as opposed to a downwinder in Surf.

It's approximatly 90Km give or take so i guess you would have covered about 100km. More interesting is how many beers you consumed in that time. I think we should make some sort of kite record for the most amount of beers drunk while kitesrfing from Torquay to StKilda!!!!!!!

There are many ways of getting out of Torquay. Myself, I moved to Perth. Always wanted to kite the heads, full points to you. Did you choose a time with a flood tide or just phang it when the wind was up? But I must say, 3 hours from heads to top of the bay is going. Were the flatties biting?

"...hit the heads 1 hr later and got to St Kilda in another three hours..."

Just wondering...Did you stop off at a bay beach duing that three hours kiting up the bay?

Any pics?

thanks Col![}:)]

I thought you were going to keep this one quiet!

Kel just read your post and I'm in the dog house now.
She thought I was called off to work.
No Sympathy for my aching legs now.

P.S anyone find north bar and stubby holder on strap at st kilda Beach?
