Kitesurfer caught inside and run over . scroll to 2:15 .http://www.coastalwatch.com/news/article.aspx?articleId=11765&cateId=3&title=Video:%20Teahupoo%20-%20June%201,%202013&display=0 LOL
Hmm - not a good place to drop a kite !! And the tow in surfer really had no choice - nice clean slice and dice!!
... if you watch the video closely, it looks like he only lets go of the bar when kite gets munched where as he is clearly under the wave.
The way the kite sat, LE down, looked like there was still pressure on the lines way too long showing he was still hanging on. Wouldn't you let go earlier or is he just crazy and thought he could still relaunch it.
Or he'd already let go and there was zero wind and kite was infact detached. What do you think?
Hmmm, product placement theory is looking like a good theory kyteryder!
cool vid by the way!
cheers,

What a muppet !!
Kitesurfing given a bad rep by a twat putting surfers in nightmare situation that could have ended in tears...

I'm wondering why the surfer chopped the kite at Chopes. ? ^^^
He split the main sock like a ripe watermelon.
Obviously it was intentional.
Cause when he exited the pit, he aimed directly at the leading edge and ran thru it like a hot knife slicing butter.
There must be some crazy backstory to all this.
Maybe the surfer is a good mate of the stricken kiter and he's just ****** with him.
Who knows ?
But I do know that he could have avoided the collision.
Oh ..you say no.
I'll tell you how.
Just ask me.
lol.
looked like tam gillot a local resident of tahiti and an ozone rider, the video doesnt do the guy justice as hes one of the smoothest kiters around, looked a bit like a **** fest with skis, boats lined up at the exit, why not throw a kite into the mix, makes good viewing
Annnnd this is why surfers (or riders from any other board sport for that matter) don't respect kiters. Makes us look REALLY bad as far as I'm concerned.
Was that Eppo???????????
Edge in surf that big is not such a great choice.
Ha ha fkn funny man hey!!! Depends on if I bought it a week earlier as there could be a good chance I've got something else by then. Lol!
How dare you disrespect the edge! I'm taking you right off my Christmas card list!!

RELAUNCH!!! RELAUNCH!!!! ![]()
... see, he's clearly still trying to relaunch even at this stage. Most of us mere mortal normal dudes would have punched out and let it go by now! ![]()

What? 13edge is not ideal for surf?!! I never heard such silliness.
I have a blast on mine!...
Imagine the boost you could get off that lip with the right wind angle.
I think what screws this guy is the cross offness of the wind. I've had a few mad sessions on those angles in reasonable swell. double head? (not this silly). When too powered you end up screaming down the line and its harder to outrun the wave as you get pulled into it. The wave looked to curve upwind around the reef which further screws him as he just gets pulled through the wave.

Errr... I think the surfers were already in nightmare situation.
I agree with WOK, why the **** would you pull out an Edge in the surf?? Doesn't serve this purpose at all!
Ooh this focus on the edge being no good in the surf is getting me twitchy I tell ya!
But yeh I agree...![]()

I don't know about anyone else but I find the Edge's need time and a delicate touch to relaunch from that position. Time is something this dude didn't have.
But I do know that he could have avoided the collision.
Oh ..you say no.

Oh wise one please enlighten us as to how the surfer could have avoided collision without:
a) Taking a lower line and going through the kite lines, or
b) Hitting 'eject' in the green room

Um.... maybe that's his only light wind kite?./......
So he's shredding on what he had available.

hot launch ?
You talking the reverse hot launch thingy? pull on the steerers and lift it up a few metres backwards then get it into a really tight turn upwards?
I've tried it a couple of times, might have to try a bit harder, seems like a neat solution to relaunching the Edge.

youve got to have a bit of wind to make it work effective, its got me and my kite out of the s**t street a few times

I thought it was fairly obvious. ^^^
Jump the kite, of course.
With all the speed and power from that sucking pit,
a surfer using straps could do a 4ft high bunny-hop at will.
If it had been a loose surfboard or a stray jetski in the way (instead of a floating kite),
the tow-in surfer would have instinctively jumped the hard object.
No ...you don't get it, do you ? ^^^
The tow-in surfer purposely chopped the floating kite.
(for whatever reason.)
lol.
