Hi there,
I live in Malaysia and will be in WA around end of December this year for a kitesurf trip.
I have planned to stop at Freemantle, Cervantes, Geraldton, Kalbarri and finally Monkey Mia.
Around Freemantle I understand that SAFETY BAY is a good spot, while THIRSTY POINT in Cervantes appears to be a good spot too.
As regards to Geraldton, it seems like POINT MOORE is a good spot.
Kalbarri, no idea ?
Monkey Mia, I have read in the forum about Denham, small lagoon and big lagoon ... I am a bit confused to be honest.
I would very much appreciate any tips that would help me to firm up my trip and identify kitesurf spots.
Also, at that time of the year, is it recommended to kitesurf with a shorty (especially in Safety Bay) ?
Finally, what shop would you recommend the best in order to buy a new kitesurf harness (Mystic warrior or similar) ? Where can I find the best prices ?
Many thanks to all of you.
Axel
3 words: "please" and "search function."
See www.waksa.org.au
You will need to register to kite in Australia as a first step.
yeh man all good spots. december should be great with the seabreeze.
sorry dude not sure where is good in kalbarri... it has awsome waves though so i guess any beach :)
im not quite sure what a "shorty" is? if you mean a wetsuit... then no dude u really wont need one in december bordies and rashie is usually enough
you need a mystic harness go to www.choicekitesurfing.com.au they are in hamilton hill close to fremantle speak to a guy called greame he will sort you out with a harness and he stocks mystic .. i bought one last week :) great harness
hope this helps
good winds
Many thanks for your kind advises h20fly.
What I call a "shorty" (sorry .. I'm French !) is a wetsuit (short sleeves and legs)indeed. Good news that I don't need any.
Thanks also for the shop info.
Enjoy kitesurfing !
Thanks for the website gruezi. Am looking at it now.
Not sure what you meant by your 3 words ... Didn't you like my post ? "many thanks" is not polite enough for you ? If that is the case, then don't bother replying frankly; that is not cool and I don't expect that kind of attitude from a kitesurfer (that makes me think of agressive windsurfers !).
If I didn't catch the meaning of your response, then forget what I just said and let's be cool.
Cheers
Any body could PLEASE (thanks gruezi for your education :0) clarify the good spots near Monkey Mia ?
Thanks
Just North of Gerladton is a top spot called Coronation Bay, don't miss it, it's superb.
Thirsty Point is really nice, beautiful with plenty of waves out the back, the flat section on the inside was a bit off and on when I was there, but I only kited it once.
Dunno about Kalbarri, it is really rocky up there, but no doubt there are some launch spots.
There's a great spot South of Kalbarri, about 20minutes drive too, can't recall the name Port something mayeb, its a little fishing town with an outside reef that forms a natural harbour, they hold Kite Stock there.
You won't need a wetty in December at all, just a rash very to keep the sun off.
Have fun, WA is mint.
Axelos: your post wasnt rude in my opinion, compared to some of the higher posting members you sound like a nice guy.
Ben De Jonge, I very much appreciate your advises and I will check these spots with no doubt. Very usefull post indeed.
Thanks Kitecrazzzy for your brief post. I was starting to worry about how agressive Oz kitesurfers might be ... which really was not what I had in mind.
Even in my response to Gruezi (by the way Spacemonkey, your friend's name is Gruezi and not Greuzi ...) I can't find any agressivity, but Spacemonkey's reply definitely is. Rather be a (funnny) clown that an (non funy and space) monkey...
Surely Alex IS a nice person, lots around in this great sport of ours.
My comment about being polite when asking for info is just a manner of language I guess. I did not get out today, and it was good....but my comment is more about what I have with the word "want" and the punctuation.........recon in French sa veux dir "s'il vous plait"...........just frigggggggggggen language...I do have a thing for the French though, and you prob. are a nice guy.
Downwinder from Eagle bluff to Denham is cool. Need skilled crew and you don't want to stuff up. Forget the Little Lagoon in my opinion and head to The Big one, but have a boat. Now, your challange Alex, is to kite Sunday Bay on Dirk Hartog Island.....that is the best.........you can really feel sharkie around. You can also kite on both ends of Denham town..........the place rocks....be careful....enjoy.
Thanks Gruezi.
I like that. I mean the fact that you are not stubborn.
Same for me; I can accept making mistakes; everybody does.
Yes, maybe my english is not proper enough to ensure you guys get the feeling that I am polite. The thing is that, yes, I am a polite guy. Will make sure I add a "please" in my next request
Thanks for the advises anyway and stay cool.
By the way, what do you mean by big lagoon, PLEASE ? Where is it located ? And why do I need a boat ? (not shallow water right ?)
What about the sharkie place ? Do you mean that there are plenty of sharks our there ?
Last but not least, when you say that the place rocks around Denham, do you mean that there are lots of rocks in the water and there is a need to wear shoes ?
Gruezi, thanks in advance.
Thanks Alex, let Space and other tell you about the things up north.........or use the Search function.
Fair enough. You guys are local .. I'm a tourist.
But maybe you should keep in mind that someday you'll be a tourist in a country and other guys will be the locals; and maybe you'll be looking for some information (obvious for the locals - not for you) and you'll be glad to get some answers rather than "well, just search by yourself" ...
Anyway, don't want to argue any longer. Appreciate your posts. No worries.
Just don't understand why you take time to criticize my post ... just ignore it and it will keep everybody happy. You don't have to answer all the posts, especially if you don't like them.
Bye guys
you've got to question some peoples personalities when they open a topic that's clearly marked as a tourist question and then say some load of bs and pass it off as them not being bothered to type a real reply.
I would tell you of some places to ride but Im not going to post it all over the web for everyone to read. Its simple...
Salut Axelos,
buy a car when you get here, get in it with your gear and follow the coast. how much more info do you need? merde!
I take everything on the internet at face value
I judge everyones personality on their posts on sea breeze.
If you met Carbine, spacey and the others you would understand that this is a complete piss take. They are top blokes with a great attitude a good laugh and always willing to help out.
The best adventure is one that has the least planning and involves the most amount of time.
As Stamp says, buy a car 4wd if you can. Cruise up the coast. On the beach where possible.
There are countless spots from Perth to Exmouth. some well known others possibly not even discovered yet.
Good luck i hope you have a great time.
Thank you all for your replies. Some very useful tips (merci rscaife pour le shorty, je vais en prendre un effectivement).
OK, understand some of you guys don't want to see tourists bothering you on your nice spots (that reminds me of the "Point Break" movie). As I said, fair enough; but you don't have to reply my post at all if you have no intention whatsoever to give good tips and if you think that my post is a total waste of time.
You guys might be really good kitesurfers and no doubt you kite 20 times better than I do (not difficult as I am barely intermediary !). I just thought that kitesurf was one of these sports where people are cool and are willing to assist others in any manner (tips, but also physical assistance in case of problem, etc ...). Now I am not sure anymore.
Respect is not granted because you are born in the country where you live in.
That's my view anyway. I have visited more than 45 countries so far and to be frank I am glad that people didn't act like respect was granted to them because they were the locals in their country; most of the time they were cool and ready to assist, in the same way as I would be the first to help while being in France and facing a situation where a "tourist" needs help (whatever sort of help).
Anyway, I am sincerely sorry for generating that wrong and poor debate. This definitely was not my intention. Won't bother you anymore on that forum. No worries.
Stay cool and please don't let me drown if you find me in difficulties ...
Come to Geraldton
Bring cases of beer to Pt Moore
locals are like bees to honey, happy to show you around and organise adlib BBQ sessions with kite designers and homebrew samplings
Mururoa Atoll is rumoured to be nice at this time of year, bit of a hike from Perth but seeing as you're down this neck of the woods, worth a look.
Take your mask and snorkel for those windless days, there're lots of unique and unusual looking sea creatures to look at. You'll have a wonderful, warm, glowing feeling for days after.
Be cool
J-P
axelos, just go anywhere you can, there is only one road along the coast. every city has a good kite spot. just look at the map.
The best plan is no plan. just go north, and move from one beach to the other when you want.
but don't miss safety bay, the spot I prefer in australia ( I've not seen every kite beaches, far from there)
Well it looks like another person has a lovely impression of us kind and carefree Australians.![]()
Mate, you will have a blast, enjoy your time around here. I am sure you will find some amazing spots as you cruise up the coast.
Mururoa ... ouah, sounds really cool to me.
Not really close from my place though. Perth remains much closer I believe. Let me consider it ...
Dawn patrol, not to worry; I was just playing a game pretending to be offensed.
I love Australia since the very first day I visited Oz about 10 years ago.
Besides, I find it logical - not very cool though - that some of you guys don't want to share with everyone on the web their favourite spots. Still worth a try, isn't it ?
Australia was, is, and will remain one of the very best country on earth (whether you are a kitesurfer or not). Am convinced.
Axelos
In two years here I have experienced nothing but a positive attitude and genuine kindness from Australian Kite Surfers. I have been helped out of tricky situations more times than I care to remember.
Guys on here like to beat their chests as it makes them feel good and manly. Its a whole world of difference where it really matters, on the beach.
Have a great time mate.
Cheers
