I wonder which were the most popular / best / nicest / closest accommodation options last year. I haven't been there, so have no idea about the place.

Best place in IMO is the units at the Dongara Caravan park on south Beach.
They are perched high on the hill and views all down South beach tho they are popular and probably booked
they also have a great camp site with a BBQ area that we always had a post Kitestock BBQ in on the Sunday.
There are also other camp sites with units on the beach the other end of town.
You can also get a bunch of mates rent a house. Google for this.
First year i am not doing Kitestock since its inception at Port Gregory. Hope its good wind for all.
