thanks for sharing
Inspiring stuff

So good to see a sport breakthrough some barriers

I watched some footage of about 10 years and the pros were surfing like todays average surfer which means maybe in 15 years us average surfers maybe able to do some of this stuff -

it certainly is more graceful to watch a spin without passing a bar and lines around.

"Kiters on Surfboards have a long way to go!" if what? they want to look like surfers? Kitesurfing is not surfing, it never will be. If people want to look like surfers on a wave then just surf. I personally like the way kiting enhances my experience in the waves. There maybe things about surfing that are very hard to replicate with a kite, but conversly there are multiple facets of kiting that cannot be replicated whilst surfing. They are too completely different disciplines. As the saying goes you can't compare apples with oranges.

way to much effort for me...respect the skill ... awesome movie. Pitythat sort of stuff couldn't win you the world championship it certainly better to watch than the fairly strict format of competition surfing.

Yeah, fair enough it takes some skill to pull that off, but the first move in that movie was the same as the next and everyone after it. I thought it was stuck on a loop.

I have noticed that a lot of surfers all look the same on the wave (with some slight variation in stance/style); pulling off the same moves as each other; Or the same surfer pulling the same move, wave after wave. It gets a bit boring.

IMO, watching surfing can get very boring very quickly.

But I agree with Bennie.

Yeah why should we aspire to be like surfers? We don't need to ride the wave like them! We can ride in front of it

I'm sure I've seen footage of Mitu Monteiro doing stuff like that with a kite attached.

yeah but mitu gets dragged along the face and up out of the wave by the kite, these guys are using the wave's power only.

one thing that will never change with surfing or kiting for that matter is that the TUBE will always remain supreem!!
dont get me wrong , love a good "air", but the stoke of tube riding will always remain the ultimate prize.
until youve been locked in / and spat out of a beast you will never know.
hunt one down and find out!!

I think he means that pro surfers are so far in front of pro kiters in the surf that its a bit of a joke. We have the constant power and should be able to do all sorts of crazy moves on a wave. Still waiting to see a pro kiter half as good as any sponsered surfer.

Im sure we will get there one day in the distant future......

Just out of interest what exactly should kitesurfers be doing in the surf that surfers can't do?

Spot 1 is onto it

Josh Kerr is an amazing surfer -

the thing that people often forget is that many who grew up surfing in perth metro have dealt with very average conditions during the summer season, crowds, larry locals, kelly wannabes and that damn non stop wind

Bringing a surfboard into the kiting equation for many i suspect is like a substitue, Most are not trying to be Kelly or Kerr or any pros for that matter but are in there own little world of bliss doing manouvers that somewhat feel like surfing when its gone to ** from the wind and the swell is tiny

take the straps out of the debate and it becomes far more challenging and probably feels just that little bit more like the real thing

Give me 4-6 foot perfect uncrowded beachy a Frames any day

Great vid, thanks!

Good point too... the progressive aerial moves that guys like Owen Wilson are pushing at the moment is unreal. Even with a kite it is hard to even come close to emulating the moves these guys are pulling.

One factor is the restriction of movement from the kite/harness itself, the other is obviously the time the sport has been around to develop, not to mention the skills of the individuals themselves.

That being said, a kite enables you to do stuff on a wave that you're unlikely to ever be able to do without it.

Surfers will always dominate and rip in waves on surfboards.
Kiters dominate in windy, shiitty, horrible, side off, side on shore conditions, where all the great waves have been ****ed up by the wind. All decent surfers are long back home watching telly and trying to get laid by their girlfriend. Hey as a surfer and kiter I can surf from 6am to 1pm every day in WA and kite the arvo to dusk. Perfect.

P.S Watch all the pro surfing comps online, free, and in real time, super inspiring, and the boyz and chicks, just rip and will blow your mind.

I'm sure all of the surfers can appreciate the quality of riding in the vid.

I guess the point I was trying to make is, with extra power at our finger tips and the option of using straps we should be leading the way in aerial trickery in the surf, smooth and fluid, linking up sections.

As long as you are out there having fun who gives a toss

Now where are those winter swells and decent banks?!

Enjoy
Matt

PS Just enjoy the vid and get out on the water if you can, there has been enough mindless dribble on the forums recently

Surfing vids are allot more exciting and progressive than kitesurfing vids are at the moment, infact allot of guys on kites and surfboards are very 2 dimensional right now and that is boring after a while. But it is a developing sport and it is exciting because where it will go will blow minds I reckon

I have to disagree Andre - but that is the beauty of opinion; everyone can have one...I won't red thumb you (It's weird that I got red thumbed for a personal opinion. It's not as if I attacked anyone).

Anyhow, I think surfing is boring to watch for those reasons above. And I don't think any progressive stuff will ever 'blow my mind'.

Yet to see a surfer or strapless kiter do this! These shots taken almost 10 yrs ago. Both riders on directionals and were ripping the surf apart as well. Modern kitesurfing has become almost as boring as surfing. Sure, all the surfers are gonna say, "we dont want to do that anyway"- Thats my point. We spend way to much time emulating surfers( and wakeboarders).
