Just watched the GWN news where it had a Kiter Matthew Kalajzich awarded for his rescue of a Dad and his Kids in Geraldton.
Apologies if I got some of the details wrong
Awesome work.![]()

I remember reading about this when it happened, big effort, justly rewarded .... I think this was the occasion when the father was about to make a decision as to which kid to let go and which kid to save. Along came a kite surfer and the rest is history. Well done Mathew.
How could you make that decison and let one of your kids go???
That would have haunted him for life if the kiter hadnt tuned up.
Turned my stomach reading about the dad's potential decision too.
Definately and A grade tops effort!!

well done again and to the other unsung heros that rescue people with their kites just doin their thing
hey phil, i will try to stay anom up here in gero cause i'm not much of a forum junkie............(although ALEX SANZ IS A GOOD READ) but yeah thanks guys for the gratitude. BUT HONESTLY ANYONE WHO WAS IN MY SITUATION WOULD NOT OF THOUGHT TWICE ABOUT DOING THE SAME. if you can tack up wind and grab your board you could of done the same. just the right place at the right right for them really.......
but once again guys CHEERS,
It's more than bing in the right place at the right time Matt.
You did the right thing at the right time which is even more important
Respect to you
May your Karma bank allways be full, your waves line up and your winds blow steady
Seriously though, when I think of this situation I also think of the 2 kids and the dad lost off the jetty in NSW. Trying to grab one and get up a ladder would have been hard enough but he obviously died trying (as you would) to save both. The loss of 1 child would be unbearable but the panic that must have gone through that guys head as events unfolded...
