Just watched the GWN news where it had a Kiter Matthew Kalajzich awarded for his rescue of a Dad and his Kids in Geraldton.

Apologies if I got some of the details wrong

Awesome work.

I remember reading about this when it happened, big effort, justly rewarded .... I think this was the occasion when the father was about to make a decision as to which kid to let go and which kid to save. Along came a kite surfer and the rest is history. Well done Mathew.

How could you make that decison and let one of your kids go???
That would have haunted him for life if the kiter hadnt tuned up.

I can't help but laugh my head off when I hear inappropriately funny stuff. That sure was one scary story. hope those involved have recovered emotionally enough to think myusernam is funny. maybe some people would never find it funny no matter what. funny to me though. haha. reminds me of all those baby jokes from when i was in primary school.

Please dont anyone be an unsung hero - stay anonymous if you like but we need every positive story we can get. There is no better PR than stories like Matts. Gives us huge cred when it comes to convincing councils etc that we really are the good guys out there.
I think all states have resolved to collect the good stories and we are all planning to share them thru our common AKSA link. If you are part of, hear of or see anything that has a positive spin for kiters please report it to your state KSA or direct to AKSA.
They wont all be as daring and gut wrenching as Mattys amazing story but the more we have the better picture we can paint.

Seriously though, when I think of this situation I also think of the 2 kids and the dad lost off the jetty in NSW. Trying to grab one and get up a ladder would have been hard enough but he obviously died trying (as you would) to save both. The loss of 1 child would be unbearable but the panic that must have gone through that guys head as events unfolded...
