Hi

After reading a number of posts about people about accidents and incidents.
I have seen that nobody mentions insurance.
Its compulsory at most kite spots in the UK where I learnt to Kite but thin on the ground here.
Given the low cost of getting it but the potential huge outlay if not it seem mad to me.

Injury's to yourself, public and other water users are not uncommon.

There's been plenty of talk if you trawl through the forums, but we are probably not as litiguous as other countries.

3rd party Liability is generally covered by your home contents insurance. If you compete or participate in events then you need Kiteboarding Australia insurance which has some first party personal accident insurance also. I don't really compete but have both as KA is cheap and supports kitesurfing.

How do they actually check in the UK that you have insurance or are there penalties?

It would be wise to check the PDS of your home contents insurance to ensure it cover sports like kiting. Too late after the event if you find the "fine print" has an exclusion for kiting - like many travel insurance policies do. KA membership includes public liability and personal insurance and is very reasonably priced. With the congestion at many beaches these days it's not worth the risk to not have insurance - Australia is amongst the most litigious countries in the world after the US...

Please check your PDS and note that any advice given here is general in nature and may not meet your individual needs.

Not sure - but i think you have to be a resident of that particular Country for any monumental insurance claims..

Like a Strayan buying Polish insurance for Straya - theyd say it aint cricket mate..

I heard Poland brought out special lawn mowing cover just for you - they keep changing the name of it though, but the same s h ! t cover is always there underneath.

I have insurance through kiteboarding Australia as I feal it's the sensible thing to do.
Equipment malfunction could easily hurt or damage a third party and your home insurance is unlikely to pay out for equipment damage or God forbid serious injury.

It came about in the UK after two deaths of people caught in lines.
Power kites and landboarding are alot more popular over there so accident plus helpful bystander can be a disaster.
