I'm planning on running a very casual wave comp at Long Reef one day soon, probably on a good southerly as we get a few days notice to get everyone together. I'm wanting to know who would be interested?
This would be a first for me to run one so its a learning thing too, I'm sure there will be arguments about scoring and stuff like that so I propose to use the method of 10 mins sessions and the rider nominates the wave they want scored. a few riders out on the water at the same time but not too many with a reasonably small comp area.
I'm unbiased to strapped, unstrapped or twintips but if you are are busting out unstrapped backrolls on waves it will of course score higher.
If you want prizes then I'd have to charge a small entry fee but I don't think we need to get into all that at the moment.
It is meant to be a fun thing to help people push themselves a little bit and to see some good wholesome crashes.. er action.
This will also be posted up on the Northern Beaches Kitesurfers page on facebook www.facebook.com/pages/Northern-Beaches-Kitesurfers/239156642800936?ref=hl
the event will probably be run from there as i can manage it from my phone and send out messages.
so who's keen?
Pete
Sounds good if I didn't have a broken foot . I would be keen to head down with the video camera though ! Have been getting heaps of video of the boys while I'm off the water .
I'll come up with a posse of local wave kiters. Sounds like fun to me, I'll bring a stocked esky of chilled beers for all to enjoy...![]()
count me in Pete! No prizes or entry fee sounds good. So does that esky full of beer. Sure you want to run heats instead of a expression session kind of format?? Either way should be fun, will try to get some other south Sydney boys up north with me.![]()
There is a cool way to have a casual comp
Just have heats with 2 or 3 videos filming the waves
No semis or finals
Just majority vote for the best wave over a few beers
Wow.. didn't know people were that keen to get something going.
OK. I'll get on the case. I have a busy month with wedding aniv and wife birthday coming up but I'm sure I'll fit something in soon.
how much notice do people need and do I have to have it on a weekend? can people make it for say a 6pm start if it was a school night?
I'm keen to give it a bash. Just returning to Sydney full time on the 15th Jan after 5 years away and only started kiting while away so would be great to meet some local kiting fraternity and get the lay of the land so to speak. Can't promise to impress but will give it my best.
I'm in...weekend probably suits most out of towners. If you need hooters ,I have access to a couple sets.
