Just bought a Personal Locator Beacon from BCF. $300, lasts 5 years, missus much more comfortable about (slightly) off shore missions. Hoping to find a few spots over the next 2 weeks in the NW

This is why I attached a half meter of shock cord to mine. It would be so easy to lose in an emergency. This way if you drop it or fumble with it in the surf you can just chase the line and retrieve it. I have had my hook knife for years, and it's still sharp and not corroded due to putting a fresh coat of surf wax over the blade every year.

I carry 2 knives, one is on a cord.

I have had to use a knife once in 16 years, when a line wrapped around my ankle and i was being dragged via death loops. Very glad I had the knife.

If you add an Apple watch to your kit your missus can check your location any time she wants. It's much more reassuring knowing at any time that you're ok.

A Garmin Inreach Mini is better but needs a fairly expensive subscription.

If you do your surfboard so that the wax is like a triangle you could rub it in with the edge. Or just use a lighter and drip it in.
