Anyone else see the kite surfers on Le Tour De France last night. As the riders hit the Mediteranian 4 guy cranking.
Looked like a great flat water spot.
They are down around Sete, and l'etang de Leucate at the moment. That area has lots of 1m deep briny lakes separated from the Med by sandbars. Flat on the inside, chop to waves on the outside, and its peak Mistral season right now. Good spots to go to!
Cal, in that area there is a coastal canal that has been built (or maybe reallocated) especially for speed sailing. If you go onto www.kitebeaches.com you can find it.
The South Coast of France has some awesome spots. There is a spot Beauduc which I have been to twice. You drive about 15 km on this rough as guts unsealed Road, through old salt pans, with Pelicans in the ponds. You can see the kites along a 5km long (at least) stretch of beach and on a good day there would be 500 people stretched out along the bay. You can park 5m from the waters edge (minimal tide in the Med) and ride in and out to your hearts content on your own line. Rad. Guys are using kite buggies on the hard packed sand, and people come flying in on personal gyrocopter things. Its one of the few places you can be in Europe and see the night sky clearly.
