Nah,I think we are just a bit more sarcastic over here than in the windsurfing forum.
When it does actually come to the crunch,we all look out and support each other.

If you learn kiteboarding properly(lessons etc)its only as dangerous as you want it to be.Comes down to a bit of common sense. Not sure what that is yet, might have to spend more time in the poledancers forum to try and learn.

Some of you guys have really missed my point, all I was trying to say was that, as fry 86 said "we as kiters on this forum and on the beach (if we ever see it happening) should have a word with the guys doing things on the beach that could jeopardize kiting there for all... " A major shop such as Kamikaze Kites should first of all tell learners to stay away from busy beaches!!! Check out what sort of crap they are promoting on their youtube account, this is the same guy that was teaching

What a video - that guy might have been taught by the pioneer of pioneers?

Beach jumping - what kind of tool would do it around a busy beach? An 'instuctor' who should know better!?

Kamikaze could start up a franchise in Byron - to put the final nails in kitsurfing's coffin. There were a couple of young guys also with Ozone kites jumping on the narrowest part of the beach almost in front of the surfclub in Byron a couple of weeks ago in the last northerly. I came down to watch the sunset and almost choked on my felafel.... I went down and questioned the guy jumping on the beach right next to all the people walking by..... and asked him what he was doing.... and he was a defensive aggressive twat....while his mate was doing hero jumps around a swimmer in the water!

These guys said they were 'sponsored' by Ozone and from the Goldy, and when I told them about the problems we were having here with the council and the residents and the surf club .... they couldn't have cared and were rude and aggressive in response. I think one was a red, orange and grey kite and the other red and yellow.... anyway boys if you are reading this ....next time kite up near 'the pass' further up the beach and stay away from all the people near the car park and main beach, swimmers and surfers - that would be much appreciated, or even better - don't come back!

My response to some of the comments made here are :
SECARTERMUSS : I only kite at the alley when it's blowing S.E. with a decent swell, maybe because of that I haven't seen anyone causing any problems there apart from Daniel doing his usual stuff and I have had a word with him, you seam to spend lot of time at the alley so if you see anyone doing anything stupid why don't you clean up your own backyard?
theDoctor: No he wasn't screaming BANZAII... I asked him what school he was from and thats what he told me plus it's the same guy on the kamikaze kites video
Hausey : Sounds like the same crew, Kamikaze kites sell/use Ozone
A lot of you guys are missing my point; This "instructor" nearly caused a major accident, if I didn't know anything about kiting and kept on walking the kite or lines would have hit me while I was carrying a little infant, not too worried about myself here but what would have happened if one of the lines cut into him or if I fell over on top of him? This could have resulted in a potentially fatal injury!

Hi Marty72

Thanks for making locals that read seabreeze and the rest of us aware of this person.
Awareness is the first step in re-education, the "instructor" needs to be told that what he is doing is inappropriate, and could lead to bans.

@PaulJ - I'm sure GCC regs would require that anyone conducting commercial lessons on their beaches are adequately permitted and insured.

@ Hausey - Ozone Australia (me) don't sponsor any land kiters that promote beach and land jumping in public places, that endangers people ane beach access.

@ Marty72 - KK used to have an Ozone account 2 years ago, but it was withdrawn, they do not sell Ozone anymore, unless its 2 year old models. The primary reason it was withdrawn was lack of knowledge on how to safely sell and promote power kiting and kitesurfing. Other brands did the same thing.

you know this for sure do you? I've never really looked in to it as i don't teach there but do know the Gold coast has always been touche about teaching on the beach, but come on every day its windy there are at least 10 people teaching their mates up and down the coast but hey this is the goldy not Sydney

I think the shop has to be told not the Instructor. I know when i get someone to do a lesson for me i'm the one who tells them where to teach and how to do the lesson.Maybe AKSA or SEQKA should give them a sign

HAHA must be no waves or wind as i'm still posting siht

Hey Marty72
I'll answer for secartermuss as it was my turn to pay the MOFO membership and he would still be pissed. We DONT kite the Alley and have nothing to do with the place so maybe when your not been so hard core in the big waves you might have to sort it pretty sure that's what he would say, if I'm wrong I'm sure when he wakes up he'll correct it.

What you did was a GOOD thing we all do GOOD things, i once saved this 200kg guy who was swimming in his undies

Jacko, maybe you shouldn't answer for other people and try to stick to the subject being discussed. Just a simple question for you, since you "DONT kite the Alley and have nothing to do with the place" how come most of the pics on your and secartermuss profile were taken there? Also reading some of your posts it looks to me like you need some English lessons "when your not been so hard core" , "are usually the worse when it gets to the beach", "on the beaches the or will you just" WTF???? lol good English

I know i spent to much time learning to kite and don't bother with this typing and spelling siht, maybe you could spend some time off the key board and learn to kite properly your self.

all my photo's were taken about 2 years ago when the alley was COOL or when its blowing SE and only the hard core guys are out.

I asked secartermuss and he said that's what he would have said and i can talk for him any time.

Rabble????? all this is full ON safety talk come on guys take it serious.

Having just watched that video, I now have a new definition...

Beach Jumping + Foil + Gay bar + Try hard = ALEX SANZ

Is that a fair equation?

EDIT:
Maybe Alex Sanz should apply for the instructer job at Kamakaze Kite.
He has plenty of experience!

land foil kiting or whatever you call it with that guy in the video is gayer than two guys in a public toilet doing it.

Yesterday afternoon I was walking on Mermaid Beach when I noticed a guy teaching someone to fly a kite right on the waters edge where all the people tend to walk, as I walked up to him I saw that the kite is about to stall and as I was carrying my infant son I stopped and fair enough the kite came crashing down in direct line where I would have been if I kept on walking. I hate to think what the consequences of this could have been if I got hit with a kite/lines while carrying a little baby! I asked the guy if he was a certified instructor or was a member of AKSA the answer was NO, don't need to be. Turns out he was an instructor from Kamikaze Kites, I told him that he shouldn't be teaching in this spot as he's putting other people in danger, teaching bad practices to newbies and one more incident can get us banned with the Council. I told him there is plenty of empty beach 10min. away at The Spit but he told me he was running short of time and didn't seam to think there was any problem, said they've been doing it there for sometime and continued doing what he was doing, I watched him for a while and saw the kite fall out of the sky a few more times.
I think that this sort behavior is totally unacceptable and should be stopped, I also don't understand why a large shop such as Kamikaze Kites allows it, surely its in their best interest not to get the sport banned from the local beach or maybe they just don't know any better?

I'm guessing this thread is less to do with safety.....
and more to do with keeping your local surfbreak open for kiting.
A clueless newbie dicking around on the beach at your local is an ugly sight for any wavekiter......
who truly values the privilege to kite there.
Wavekiting spots located at crowded public beaches are a finite resource.
They are not kite-flying beaches.
They are not for newbies to dick around on the beach flying stupid kites.

There are safe responsible kiters that have a right to enjoy the sport without being members of an association.....this guy isn't one of them. The associations do not have the right to "chat" anyone, they are not the police. If theres a ban don't go there, if its a beach that requires association membership join or go somewhere that doesn't but don't suggest that being in an association somehow makes you a safer kiter.
