i've got a Naish haze 137 and wanted to go up the river and get back on the board behind the boat. what are kite-boards like and what's the likely hood of snapping one while jumping off the wake. Cheers Jack

Hi yatjac01,

You can use a kiteboard behind a boat and it is fun, but it is no where near as good as a wakeboard. The big problem is the rocker. A kiteboard is designed to go upwind and be efficient at edging at speed, it doesn't need a nice rocker to utilise the shape of ramp of the wake as we use the kite to get air.

There is little chance you'll break a kiteboard behind a boat. If heavy riders like me struggle to break them falling from 30 feet during a kite loop, then landing from a 6 foot air behind a board will do little to it.

Have fun with the kiteboard but you'll perform better with a wakeboard and boots behind a boat.

Good winds,

Yea, you wont break it. I broke my leg before breaking my Cabrina Custom. Andy Yates pulls bigger moves on his kiteboard then the guys at the skipark, however he isnt jumping off a wake. But seriously your new kiteboard will still be better then any wakeboard that was make when wakeboarding first took off in the late 90's to early 00's. I remember when the 2000 model liquid force Rythme came out... MAN havent things changed since then.

I rode cable with my 137 haze and it was ok, although any old wakeboard with a bit more rocker feels alot nicer. It's great for practising ya kiteboarding skills, however if any of your mates have a wakeboard you will have alot mre fun with that. Also with riding at cable, the lack of rocker is not as big of an issue as it is behind a boat.

Ok the big diffenrence is the binding factor, I wake board and kiteboard, I stared kiteboarding first. So i am very used to footstraps..
When throwing tricks behind the boat you use alot more power then most kiting, your rotations need to be faster so it is massively harder to keep your board on your feet while doing tricks if you loose one foot and come down badly very easy to twist your knee, ankle, other. As your traveling faster and being pulled in to the water harder..
The other thing is wake boards tend to drag alot more allowing you to create line tension easy, which is essential to get good pop.. Your kite board will travel alot faster easier, buut you will find it harder to get the same pop..
Wake boards being slightly heavier also help to create momentum in tricks as well..
Hopw this helps :-)

i've found kiteboards fine at cable but when you get behind a boat there no good even with bindings, because of the flatter rocker line they cut thru the wake rather then
hit and launch off the wake..

andy yates also lands softer than a feather onto a bunch of pillows compared to people at cable. wakeboaridng will always be harder and faster than kiting will ever be

A good mate of mine still rides the rythem as a kiteboard and rates it massively. He reckons its the best board for toeside tricks. But then again you don't see many people doing toeside tricks anymore.

dave you havnt even snapped a popsicle stick before.

boots stay on board permanently..

as for kiteboards at cable.. they had their pros and cons, on my LF recoil comp i was able to get the same height in pop as the cable boys were getting and i was loading half as long as they were, the problem though with the flatter boards is the speed. the more i tried to load the more speed i got in landings, not that it was a bad thing it just meant i outran the cable alot of the time. ive used a concept 135 behind a boat and didnt like it, the flatter outline of the board makes it dig into the wake if you edge properly like you should behind a boat, and as mentioned before it slices the wake more than using it as a ramp sooo i suggest using a board designed for wakeboarding.

Not a great option. Wakeboards are much heavier and have a lot more rocker than kiteboards. You're better off getting a 2nd hand kiteboard on Seabreeze for $200.
