G'day all
i know that everyone has thier own personal opinions of thier perfect kite but i would like a few sugestions on some kites that are worth having a demo of.
my details:
75-80kg
175cm
intermediate (starting to land a few basic tricks and unhook)
mostly ride flat water at safety bay or woodies WA but also do the odd down winder.
curently ride a 9m ocean rodeo Rise and 135 CB Tempo
im looking at going for a 2 kite quiver of a 8m Rise (because i love the wind range and how it handles the gusts in higher winds) and a 10m that is a bit gruntier and faster turning.
so what im after:
i want to try out some 2011-2012 10m kites that have a bit more grunt, speed/pull through the turns and that drift down wind well.
increasing these things normaly decrease the wind range and comfort in gusts but if there is anything around that ticks all the boxes i would love to know.
if there are any suggestions on what to have a look at i would appreciate it.
cheers
Dan
Sounds like you need to give the RPM a trial.
Most would tell you it does everything ur asking for.
The new TS from Best would also be one to look at.
I am looking for an out and out strapless surf kite, due to injuries no more wake style/free style for me for a year or so, suggestions?
Hey Dan, I'm sure there are plenty of kites out there that would suit you, however as already said, the North Rebel is a wicked kite. Its responsive, turns fast, easy relaunch in the surf, and most of all has plenty of grunt, especially through turns. The Rebel does however lack in its un-hooked downwind drifting ability. If your doing more un-hooked stuff give the Evo a crack. It is really stable un hooks and drifts well but isn't quite as quick as the Rebel.
Another option is the BWS noise kite. It is one of the best kites on the market for its downwind drift ability, really good un-hooked and surprisingly good as a freestyle kite too! However it does lack a little in turning speed. Definitely better in an 8m than a 10. Also keep in mind that an 8m noise has similar power to most 10m kites!
Good Luck Mate
Marcel
Dan you say you want speed, grunt ,and pull try the ozone edges ,they deliver that in abundance,I've tested a few kites this year but i won't be changing , try before you buy good luck Cauncy
Hi DC
Looking at what you are into, just starting unhooking and flat water at woodies and the pond, I would have look at the Naish Tourch, they are an awesome freestyle kite and certainly turn well and develop a lot of power during the turn. Probably slightly harder to use than what you are used too, but much more rewarding. I have also found they are also unreel in the waves on a twin tip. If you ride waves by keeping the kite still and de powered, then the Rebel is probably better, but if you use the power from the kite as well, you cant beet a true C kite for precision and speed of turning. I rode the rebels last year and found them a constant disappointment every time I unhooked, and loops were just useless, they just develop no power at all, but that is not what they are designed for. Rebels good low end and going upwind.
Hope this helps and hasn't confused thing further for you.
Best of luck
I would think if you're riding flat water and looking to unhook that a rise, rebel, BWS etc are maybe more suited to the downwinder side but the 8m rise should cover you for that. Maybe look at better freestyle kites like RPM, C4, Switchy (if you can keep it out of the trees and powerlines), Park? If you're keen on OR maybe look at the OR Razor but looks like a butt-ugly kite to me. Next step up would be high-depower C-kite like Torch, Airush Razor, etc.
Also suggest 11m or even 12m rather than 10m to maximise wind range (I'm 5kg heavier than you and still ride a 16m C-kite occasionally)
Rebel and Switchy most def!
This is one below is one of my favs atm.
The QX works really well for any sort of riding.
pop and release are very smooth which makes it easy to learn new unhooked moves. Drifts nice and boots big. Responsive and fast but still super stable.
