Where are the best places to go kitesurfing or windsurfing in November and December in australia or near Australia? haha.I am planning a wind trip and want to try to maximize the amount of wind. Hope you guys can help me.
Cheers.
Out of the 61 days in November and December if I was a gambling man I'd bet you'd have around 45 decent days in the 20s around Dongara geraldton in mwest, cyclonic patterns up north are a real killer for us, the nw can crank also in November especially around exmouth I've had 40knt true sb sessions at wilderness island in the gulf, we have amazing kiting terrain along this coast, the are some flat water spots but most is shore/ surf
If your decision is based purely on wind, Geraldton or Dongara.
If you bring a wife/girlfriend to these towns there is a 100% chance she will hate it, unless she's from Qatar, or Chernobyl. Or if she kites.

Perfect kiting destination then![]()

For "near Australia" how about Cape Town?
Windy season starts in October and runs through March. Probability of wind is high.
Flights from about 1,700 Aussie but when you get there it is cheap: Rand has collapsed.
You can get a pimp room in Cape Town Kite Club (on Big Bay) from 36 Aussie a night. Car rental from 25 Aussie a day. Beers are 2-3 bucks. If you go for a couple of weeks or more it is cheaper than holidaying at home??
I'm going to get controversial here.... but really, why would you do anything but stay in Australia to kite, for the middle of Australia's kiting season? People come from all over the world to kite here. We complain about Euros pretty much daily because they all fly over here to take advantage of our conditions. We have miles of empty beach and consistent wind. In November/Dec you could take your pick of Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, and (maybe) Sydney and get 4-6 kiting days a week. If you wanted to travel outside of the major cities you could probably have a massive beach to yourself.
I think we always have this compulsion to go overseas for kite holidays - but having been on kite trips to Maui, California, Florida, NZ, Venezuela, PNG, and the Cook Islands... some of the best sessions I have ever had have been at my local or while on hols to WA or FNQ. I have 3 weeks off in Dec and for once instead of trying to book some fancy holiday I am going to sit my ass at home in comfort until the wind comes in, then drive 15 minutes to my local and kite in conditions that a Frenchman could only dream of.
I really doubt you would save much more than a grand or two going to some third world country. And if you bring a GF along its not like shes going to let you kite every day so she can sit by herself or see sights by herself. Believe me, I've tried it.
I would suggest in no particular order for Aus in Nov/Dec road trip involving - Augusta/Margs/Perth/Gero, Adelaide, Melb/Sandy Point/Torquay/Ocean Grove, Sydney/Newcastle. Or all of the above.
If you really want O/S, there are like a thousand travel threads that can be found with a search function.
