Ok so we would like to hear of peoples experience with KITE LUGGAGE GEAR. Like golf bags, surfboard bags etc. Doesnt have to be a kite brand - but suitable to stuff alot of kite gear into!
In our experience alot of the stuff is made in china and falls apart too damn easy... Who here is had good expereincewith a certain brand etc? This isn't to burn brands please, but more to find the quality stuff!

Get a board bag custom made in Kuta. Pick your size materials colour padding etc. add a couple of pool noodles when packing. They're cheap enough (<$100) to be disposable but last as well as anything else. Zips will always fail unless you spray them and keep them moving.
i bought a rolling duffel from Costco for $50 US for my kit. It's been bulletproof. It's not a regular item. Can fit all kite gear in bottom compartment, so keep it seperate until you kite.

Please enlighten us more about your also made in China products
Thanks for your interesting comment.
Just so you can get your facts correct, were an all Australian magazine - printed smack bang in the middle of Marrickville NSW.
Designed here, with content and photos mostly supplied from Aussies too.Anyway were not ripping on gear made in china - we are looking for gear that lasts the distance without falling apart after a few uses.

Hey pearl this is a great idea! Thanks for your input! How does the handmade balinese board bag hold up? The stitching etc?

I did this and even though I spoke to the maker on the phone I still didn't get what I explicitly asked for design wise. I even sent pictures. The cover material pulled out from the edging pretty much straight away. It ended up costing more than I could have got one for locally and never got used. Unless your in Bali and can view before you hand over the cash I would say forget it.

That's it in the back ground. (Green) Faded but all stitching zips are ok. I've heard of others falling apart to. We got ours when there from a father/son team that have been doing it for onks about 4yrs ago. They have stock covers hanging there you can test. Just back from a pacific yacht trip and guys on boats were saying they go through so many covers as they're outside permanently. Covers end up costing them more than the boards they're storing. Sideways surf home brand good value locally if your not doing indo, especially if they have a sale.

These are are not cheap but they are rock solid and last for ages.
Lots of sizes to choose from and you can fit everything in, just gotta watch the weight ![]()
My PatLove Trucker bag seems good quality. Used it for heaps of travel, and only the zipper needs some TLC but that's normal. It is huge, so when filled up to the 32kg max, there is still some space left.
I bought a dakine club wagon golf bag. Cheapest new golf bag available from a brand name that I am aware of.
Overall very happy with it. dragged it all around europe and didnt really look after it at all. dragged it through sand and had wet gear in it. Have to say that it is stronger than I thought and did a good job [protecting everything. When it's full you can even use it as a bed to rest your weary head on while at an airport waiting multiple hours to check into a flight.
My nut sack has lasted 50 years
copped a flogging in my late teens early 20s, been in a few battles too, holds all my prized possessions but getting a bit worn and saggy now![]()
wife wants me to stitch it up
I will second on the Ocean and Earth bags. It's handy that I am 25 minutes away from the factory that sells with discounts. I took one around the world and has had four other overseas trips and every aspect has held up perfectly. It did get a tear, but that is an airline issue not a fault. Highly recommended. I needed a bigger bag last year for a couple longer boards so I have and extra one now that I will let go cheap if anyone wants it. Will fit two boards, two kites bars etc. I think max size board would be 6'2" for the length.
I've got an ozone kite bag. I've had 3 kites and 2 boards in it, plus pump harnesses etc. it sat in the back of a car in direct sunlight for a couple of years (used several times a week). was left in a damp shed for over a year (no use). The zips have been seized with salt, easily fixed with boiling water and a bit of jiggling. It's been dragged all over the world the last few years, overstuffed with both kitegear and just general travel items when I can't be bothered with a backpack.
In all that time I've not had any issues with damaged gear, and the bag's still looking good. Colour has barely faded.
the only thing I can fault it on is not have ****ing rollers on the bottom. Not fun carrying a 5 foot long, 30kg bag on your back after a 15 hour flight.

Here's a photo- over 7 years old.

+1 O&E triple surfboard bag. Partner and I both kite, so we typically travel with 4 kites + 2- 3 boards. Boards, harnesses bars + a kite or two in the surfboard bag and then we just use a really light weight (<0.5kg) duffel bag for the other kites, clothes etc. We have a slingshot golf bag, but at close to 6kg, it's too much dead weight and don't ride TT much anymore.
This year we've done;
Australia 6 weeks
Fuerteventura 2 weeks
Portugal 10 days
Spain/France 23 days
Morocco 10 days.
We need it lightweight and easy to maneuver.
3,6,9,12 Gong strutless kites
2 X diy carbon bars 1 X SKshapes carbon bar
LF SOLO2 harness, custom spreader bar
NP lady, custom spreader bar
Nobile Infinity Split
USD Split twin tip
GONG tall skinny pump
Repairs n spares
I check in with clothes in bag at around 20kg using GONG inflatableSUP bag
Wifey checks in around 12kg, with clothes in carry on bag. 12m kite bag (USD splitboard fits in kite bag)
Second small GONG bag is my carry on with camera gear, odds n ends.
